That being said, in a 5 second 0-60 car, cutting 0.5 seconds off the time is a 10% improvement, which is really a pretty significant amount at this performance level. It takes a lot more power to cut 10% off a 5 second car than it does to cut 10% off a car that gets a 10 second 0-60. You cannot really dismiss a 0.5 second advantage in 0-60 or a 1 second advantage in quarter mile as not significant. Those amounts qualify as "handily" beating the slower car. |

I don't think it transformed at all. According to that guy, it was that way when he took delivery.

Ok, so the Mustang "catches up" with a decent V6 (slightly larger in displacement mind you which is nearly the result of the 11 hp). Being a smaller car, this should be a pretty hot package.
This is what makes this segment so great. You knew Ford had to respond with something and now they have. Next will be can Chrysler/Fiat respond..............and what will GM do next ![]() Now the fun begins. And mind you this is all in a world of CAFE and emissions regulations. One would almost think it was the 60's again.

Well, this IS news. Will the new Mustang have corrosion underbelly issues ?
Competition is good and let's not forget who brought the retro style back first and started this whole deal - the Mustang. Still ... Camaro for me all the way, but sure starting to feel like the '60's and '70's all over again, COOL !

I already commented on this thread but have given it more thought and we really should not be worried that Ford is getting its stuff together in terms of performance...Like I said before, competition is awesome and we all share a common passion...
That being said...What can GM do in response for the 2011 model year if it's really worried about a now solid competition? (Sorry Mustang guys I'm not saying that the '10 Mustang is crap I'm just saying that in the end the Camaro outperformed this year [yes, except for weight...but all things still considered the numbers are out there]...I'm not going to argue about to what significance or degree, just that this year the Camaro did outperform)...The 2011 Mustang really does look like solid competition so it'll be very interesting...But still, what might GM do in response to solid competition? Well let's take for example what Ford did in the short run (1 model year solution...2010) with the GT...They took the Bullitt Mustang options and carried them over to the GT to bump up the performance (cold air intake, computer retune, and gears) to gain 15 horsepower... In the short term, GM could just as easily get it's stuff together with GMPP and start offering packages like this from the factory...Sure they won't be drastic increases (just like the power gain from the '09 to '10 Mustang GT), but say we add even 15 horsepower to the LS3 (441 horsepower)...That'll give a little bump at least and I think it would make it pretty interesting (that little bump did make the Mustang a little livelier so I'd be interested to see what it could do to the Camaro SS...But, yes, whoever it was that mentioned the Law of Diminishing Returns is absolutely right...That does apply. But still, it would be something) Don't hate on the Mustangs so much guys...Yes the whole pony car era did begin with the Mustang and competition is part of the American spirit...It drives us to become better, leaner, faster, or whatever the competition calls for. So without the Mustang we wouldn't be getting newer, cooler features in years to come... It definitely does feel like the 60's and 70's again...Wait a second...I'm only 21 so I wasn't around hahahaha But you get my point...Very cool to see the "pony car wars" are back in swing lol Very cool! That's my take on things and I will say it again...I absolutely love my SS and couldn't have asked for more in a car! The first time I saw my car it was a once in a lifetime experience/feeling and I couldn't have asked for more honestly! I love it and I can't wait to drive it again... I'm out of the country and won't be back for a while... :( |

I'm curious to see how GM responds myself. Camaro SS is just barely beating the gas guzzler demon right now so the old strategy of throwing a bigger cam or a couple more cubes into the mix obviously wont be on the table. And while a fifth gen small-block has been in the rumor mill for some time now we know that engine wont be ready for the 2011MY and it seems unlikely for 2012. That means GM will have to answer with the LS3 or a derivative thereof, if they answer at all on the V8 hp front anytime soon. If they do answer, it will require some real thought this time 'round so things could get interesting.
As for the V6 Camaro, the LLT is really a relatively new beast so we really don't know what that mill has left in reserves. If I'm not mistaken the basic design can be taken out to 4.0L, but that seems likely to cost the general a mpg or two so I am unsure they will want to go that route. Of course, if the General happened to be making some tweaks in the name of fuel economy anyway...something which is rumored to be happening since that engine is oh so close to 30mpg....GM could potentially find a way to bump up the cubes and offset any penalty in fuel economy with those tweaks and find their power increase without paying a penalty at the pump. Of course, that would mean giving up on the magical 30mpg mark...everything is a trade off. Good times. |

Apparently you cant handle the truth.I think you need to go back and see exactly who started posting false comment's before you accuse me of anything oh wait that's all you fanboy's can do. I am not loyal to GM or Ford I will defend either to the end with truthfull information. In fact this is my first Ford ever. |
