CTS is much more of a 5-series fighter. The ATS will be oriented towards the 3-series. I wouldn't consider the Toyota/Subaru coupes as competitors to the ATS, as they are not in the luxury segment. They're more Genesis coupe competitors, and by extension the higher end models will compete with the V6 Camaro.

*looks at ATS rendering, then realizes that the 6th gen is supposed to share the platform*

IRS + Lighter weight + lazy LLT carryover = "Ecoboost Mustang.. Meet LLT Camaro6. Play nice now.. *SPANK*"

Bread and butter, now in 6 cyl form.

It is very exciting that the next Camaro will be built off the Alpha RWD platform.

If that is the case- I think Cadillac is getting too complacent with their designing of cars- they are starting to all look the same- and ffs if you want to compete with the 3 series- you best bring something unique and engaging to the table.

Yeah, that rendering looks almost identical to the CTS. I did read that the ATS is planned to go against the BMW 3-Series. It was just my wishful thinking that the ATS would be a much smaller-than-CTS car that would compete with the BMW 1-Series, Audi TT, Volvo C30 crowd.

Nice.

Most of the reports out of the media preview indicate the ATS will indeed look most like a scaled down CTS. I remember reading a Motor Trend article a few months back that indicated the intent was to do different styling to avoid the CTS coupe's extreme fastback and make a convertible possible. Making it a baby CTS is a problem, in my opinion. A convertible Cadillac is a must.

Exactly, this thread has turned into a "silly place" because of the balking about a simple "model" or rendering of the ATS that for all intents and purposes could end up looking like a banana to the real ATS' apple.

hrm, but as for the topic-at-hand. One of the things that I don't like about BMW, is that all their cars look identical (and boring) except for size unless you follow the brand closely....I'd really like to see Caddy designers pull off what the Germans apparently can't: Link a brand together with a common design scheme, without killing each car's identity.
