Many moons ago I worked for Chevrolet and Oldsmobile dealerships as a driveability/light line tech. I can tell you this is not a new problem. For some reason GM must not seem to think there is anything wrong with their blower motors. Generally it's the commutator end bearing (actually I think its a bronze bushing) that always seems to get noisy after time. I had to take my 2011 SS to the dealer three times before they would confirm the blower motor needed to be replaced. Mine would only chirp when it was cold out and every time I took it in to have them look at it was not cold enough to make it chirp. So I live 30 miles from my dealer so that's 180 miles and time off from work three times to get this handled. Finally got it replace under warranty and the new one began to do the exact same thing this fall when it got cold again.
Since I'm out of warranty I decided to use the old-school fix. Take off the motor housing cover and put a drop of 3-in-1 oil on the bushing. Presto! Noise gone. YMMV but we fixed a lot of noisy blower motors this way years ago. Although the motor case did not come apart back then so we would drill a tiny hole in the back cover through which to oil the bushing. Just have to be very judicious with the oil so it doesn't get on the commutator/brushes. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
