2. Dont let the strangers drive your car. Only those who you know, have the key fob, Know how to use it, and are not Idiots. 3. Dont leave your car unlocked for strangers to get in and put your car in drive. 4. Unless your on a steap hill park break works just fine, you dont have to leave it in gear, I dont leave mine in gear unless on a hill. I would love remote start and will get one when I get back to South Dakota some day, but for now all that just sounds like to much trouble for me.

Total system (remote start security keyless entry), install, smartstart module, and window modules was just under 1200. Kind of expensive, but I got alot of add ons and the top of the line system. I would guess this could be done for about 400-500

Like the install. Based on your location I would not use it in the winter. Parking brakes on in freezing weather is a bad idea. Pads will freeze to the rotors if there is enough moisture.

Ovation suggested Going with Astrostart. I guess Viper just bought them and supposedly they have a more durable design? Start alone installed is $340-400. Im going in this weekend and pricing it with more options. They also have the smart start phone apps now.

I think most of you criticizing the OP should review this line from the first post:
"First off, IT IS POSSIBLE to install a remote start on an M6. This isn’t the 1960’s anymore, there have been advances in technology that allow us to do cool things like this. It is safe and legal." And that should clear a lot of things up.... I said "should". And I know... NecroThread! |

I have a better solution - Send my kids out to start the car in the winter. That's what they're for, right?
**EDIT** Much cheaper than $1200 too. |

On a manual transmission first they would need to bypass the clutch safety switch and provide an interlock that would prevent start if: 1. The car was left in any gear 2. The emergency brake was not on. 3. The car would shut down if the door, hood or trunk were opened in any manner other than using the key fob to unlock the car first. ( that is how mine works from the factory on my HHR) If these interlocks were not installed I would not purchase a remote start for a manual transmission car.

Well some people have no kids and if you haven't noticed a kid costs much more than $1,200 in upkeep every year...

That's way too complicated just to remote start my car.. It's a stick and I live without being able to remotely start it.. and, unless there's some real serious innovation in manual design and remote start features, then I'm not putting one on, either.. As stated before.. E-Brake isn't going to fully hold the car.. There are reasons you turn wheels a certain direction depending on incline and why you use 1/R depending on incline as well.. Just not worth the $$ and instruction effort each time for the coolness factor.. Not to mention, if any little thing isn't set right it won't work.
