Although I agee with the posts that it isn't necessarily useful, I think it's nice tough. Sure, there could be more useful stuff there, however, if you don't like it, look for something to replace it, IMHO. Quote:

Heat is the #1 killer of transmissions (autos AND manuals).
Id rather have a guage that tells me when something is wrong than one that gives me information from a predetermined set table on the ECM. Knowing how much torque you have at any given time is useless, more so when the value isn't read from a sensor reporting actual conditions.

They would also have a pretty strong “prior art” defense , since the SSR had one. |

I did some browsing in the catalog and it looks like the vette and the cts both get transmission coolers on the manual. I guess we may get the same on the Camaro. Just thought that was interesting.

Depends on the generation and model I should of clarified that on my C4 LT1 the auto tranny cooler is integrated into the radiator, I just put a new one in recently. Also I expect GM to program it to run hot. This helps the cats operate. I'll probably look for a way to either reprogram it cooler or put a manual fan switch.

I believe the SS gets coolers on both manual and auto models. So I guess the gauge is a cool way of showing that they work...

In automatics, the fluid is pressurized, so there is the possibility of cooking the trans fluid. But in a stick, there's not much to get hot for the majority of production cars.
If you are racing that might be true, but I've seen and driven cars with over 200,000 miles on a manual transmission, and the fluid has never been changed, and they still shift and operate fine. All that's in the majority of manuals is old fashioned 30 weight oil just to keep things lubricated. |

I just didn't know you could heat up the oil in a manual that much, no one really talks about a manual trans oil issue. |

Back on topic though.. even my above "rare" case of failure.. its due to heat.. and having a sensor that tells you when something is right or wrong is better than having a guage that just feeds you info off a predetermined table.
