Its simple. If you got the money to afford a 32,000+ (at least) car and be able to still live fairly comfortably instead of paycheck to paycheck, then definitely consider the SS. But from your post, sounds like money is an issue. I mean...an LS to an SS is a big step in price...not sure how you can go from affording LS to SS in 4 months, but more power to ya if you can.
As for the V6...yes I have one and love it. No its not a V8 but its definitely a quick car, and over time it can be made even quicker AND have a great sounding exhaust if you invest in something aftermarket. A few bolt ons, and your looking at an easy 320 HP / 290 TQ car, and who the heck can complain about that!!?? Good luck!

I think this is the thing most people forget when they say get a V6 then you can slowly upgrade it and get the same HP as a SS for a little bit less, is that the engine is only ONE of the performance upgrades you get when going with the SS.

I owned a 1995 Camaro V6 with 160hp....cost about 19k out the door at the time. I'd say 300+ HP V6 is a lot better than what I had!! My LS1 is just about as much as the V6 now...that being said, i love the sound of the V8.

I don't know if you'll be, but I'm completely happy with my ~325 HP V6. And I do plan on buy a generation 6 SS. Good luck with your decision.

If you want a V-6 find some sucker who wished he bought a V-8. Buy his low mileage ABM V-6 and save yourself some money. I think I know one.

So what are the other performance upgrades? I researched and found the motor and brakes to be the only real difference in a 2LT RS and and a 2SS RS. Clue me in on all of the other differences. As for me, I am nearing retirement. I love muscle cars but after driving the V6, I was more than happy with it. After I retire, I plan on trading the V6 in on a Z28 (hopefully they will be out by then). I do expect there to be several more peformance upgrades on that bad boy. You have to decide for yourself. If you can live with the V6, I promise you it will turn just as many heads and be a LOT of fun to drive. But I have to admit that there are times I miss the deep rumble of a V8. |

I started with the 2LT/RS and it was great. But, my last two vehicles were a 2003 Sierra 4X4 with V8 and a 1998 Corvette with a V8. I missed the torque and I thought the brakes on the V6 were a little too soft for such a heavy car. I traded it in for a 2SS/RS and it is great. My problem now is that I want to improve every aspect of the 2SS...

My last Camaro (#6) was a black 1980 z-28, red stripes and 4-speed. It was a great car to end generation 2. I'm going to order a V6 in August and then trade up in a few years to a Z-28 of generation 5 (that sat in someone's garage and depreciated). The top dog of this generation hasn't been built.
Buy V6 (non-RS) now. You'll have a great daily driver and won't have the following extra expenses: Not being able to rotate tires on a SS or RS, plus they are summer tires that don't last have as long as all season tires. Extra insurance and property tax 30cents more per gallon for premium gas |

It depends on what you want the car for. Me personally I wanted a good looking car that wasn't slow so I bought the V6. If you're more performance oriented then you probably wanna save and try to catch a deal on a used SS. Just remember that YOU'RE the one making the payments on YOUR car so don't let anybody give you shit regardless what model you choose.

look, it's an excellent car period. And this 6 is no joke - we're seeing the V6 crack into the high 13's with simple bolt on's, and low 12's with N02. If you want to save cash all around, get the LLT. If you can afford the extra 8k..get the V8. Win win. |

A couple years agom my wife had a car give out on her, so it was tme to get a new one. She went in and got a very low mile 2002 V6 Mustang. It was loaded except for leather and an auto transmission, which she didn't want anyway. She loved the car, but she really wished it had a V8 in it. After only having it only 6 months it was totalled by an uninsured motorist. She was sad, but she replaced it with a new V8 Mustang. Now she is happy with the new one, but at times she wishes the payments were lower. But to me at least, it's better to make payments that are a little high for your taste than to make payments on a car you are not totally happy with. |

sounds like the LS would fit your budget better, you can always mod it when time/money is right. Overall, it's still a Camaro.
