There is no benefit of having oil in your intake system. Livernois may have a good reputation, but this is nonsense.

Lets see. Negatives: Any oil in the intake air charge will reduce the amount of usable octain thus less power release per explosion or combustion event. Any oil in the intake air charge will result in detonation and the ECM will pull timing resulting in les power & pour fuel economy...and after a certain period will default to the low octaine tables. Oil in the intake air charge will cause carbon deposits on the intake ports, valve tupips, and piston tops negatively affecting the volumetric efficiency, flow, burn pattern and quench area. The carbon is also extrremely abrasive (near diamond like) and as pieces break loose and get trapped between the cylinder & piston scoring will result as well as premature wear. On a top mount super charger, the tolerances are so close and the rotors so finely nbalanced that the varnish & oil residue over time will cause rotor to rotor interference as well as negativly affecting the balance shortning the head units life. The Pluses: .........can't think of a single plus and have yet to see any respected FI engineer with anything but alarm when they talk about oil ingestion on a FI build. Anyone got a clue as to what could possibly be a plus to oil ingestion in the intake air charge?

I have a Elite Engr. catch can. I just checked mine and it had 1/4" of oil in it with 850 miles. Doesn't seem like too much.

Thats an OZ or two.....alot when you look at the negative effects it causes. The EE is a great can also.

Bringing old threads back to life one at a time.
Any thoughts on this idea? To help condensation and help oil to drop out of suspension; I was thinking about trying to mount the catch can inside my CAI box so the cold air could aid in the process (I have the ADM Scoop). Does the length of the hoses any negative effect?

The cooler the better and hose length has no ill effect on it. Good idea! Now, if in a winter freezing climate the can needs to be warm to drain easily.
