The 5th gen Camaro is a NEW CAR. It WILL get more attention and compliments than your used C6. Sorry bud, but until the hype dies down, it's true. Corvettes have been around forever, and I for one am no longer gawking at them when I see them. It's just another Corvette. Not even a Z06.

Not everyone is looking for a track car. The Corvette is much less a daily driver, or daily driver capable, than the Camaro. Once the Camaro is out for its first year, the "new" factor will have died down some. He'll be missing out on this once in a lifetime chance to own something most people haven't even seen. Those used C6's will still be around after the Camaro's debut.
Dude, reality check, you have never driven a 5th gen Camaro. How do you know the Vette has a harsher ride? IMO they are VERY compliant and barring the worthless run flats are pretty quiet too.

I also disagree with the perception of these two cars. Vette's are pretty timeless, the Camaro will be a big hit and probably be pretty popular for awhile but will not have near the long term appeal of the Vette.

The only drawback is if you buy the Vette first and then realize the Camaro isn't that great after you have been driving the Vette for a year.

Put this thread up for opinions and all are welcome. These are all things to consider and that is why this is hard for me. BTW I still gawk at every C6 I see. I think they are gorgeous, even though there are many out there. The back seat is not a real concern of mine. I felt good in the Vette obviously or I would not be having such a hard time. From what I am gathering the 2008 Vette or the 2010 Camaro SS. I think the LS3 is a bigger factor than what I thought at first. So that makes that $30k price go away. I could probably pick one (2008 C6) up this summer for less than $40K I think. The Camaro SS looks better @ 31K right now, at least I should say better in my situation. A new 2009+ Vette, I would have to wait quite awhile longer and would probably have to finance some of it. So all this information/opinions are helping out. The poll is pretty even right now, I think that shows how tough a call it is, also shows how this forum is pretty objective at least for a Chevy vs Chevy situation! Thanks eveyone!

I have been driving my first Corvette, a '99 C5 Z51 A4 with a 103K for over 3 years. I have had many Camaros (68,69,76,90,96) and am now seriously considering a 2SS. I will have to sit in one and drive it before I know whether I want a new C6 or Camaro. The future of GM matters, financing matters, warranty matters, PERFORMANCE MATTERS and price matters.

I would compare your problem to kinda like getting married. except you slept with the vette and you like how she feels. Now your second guessing your dream. These are two diff class of cars. You said you could get the vette now and get a vert later, but if you got the ss you would not get a vette later?? I think if you waited just a lil longer for the SS instead of getting what is available now Which is prob the only reason your thinking about it you will be glad you waited. then wait a year and either get something that is not even out yet or get the same vette for even cheaper The time for the camaros to be here is just around the corner..... dont give up now!!!

Well...why did you join this forum and post almost 1000 posts, and why did you take the dive to PREorder a Camaro? Really think about it....

Now, is the Corvette a better performer? UNDENIABLY! But by how much, and does it matter is the question you need to ask yourself. IMO, it's not enough to matter: You'll be hard-pressed to feel these differences, and chances are anything you can make that Corvette do, the Camaro can do, too.

According to MotorTrend:
Camaro (2005 Corvette Z51)

0-60 -- 4.7 (4.3) sec
1/4 mi. -- 12.9 (12.7) sec
60-0 -- 105 (110) ft.
slalom -- 68.6 (66.2) mph
lat. G -- .90 (.95)
mpg -- 24hwy (26hwy)

If the car you might buy doesn't have the Z51 package, then the handling characteristics will probably be less than reported above...AND -- you get a full warranty with the Camaro.
To me, at least -- the choice seems clear. fwiw....

The warrenty is a good point Dragon, also people remember. If you have to pay sales tax, this is a rebate next year... the reason im NOT getting the Z06

Wait a minute...do you mean to tell me that the Camaro is faster through the slalom than the Corvette? (And has better braking?!?!?!)

That's amazing!

Throwing something in the mix! How does modding compare between the LS2 and LS3? Whatever I get will definately be modded with FI on the down the road.

I would love to see a performance package for the Camaro that involved gearing ratios maybe some 10'wide rear tires and 9' wide in the front, maybe some slotted/dimpled rotors and a lil lower profile. I am sure this will probably be an option after awhile. I wonder how the Camaro would compare to the Vettes with some wider/better tires, different gears. I think this would tighten it up a lil bit. I think the Camaro could get in the .95's on the skid pad and lower 12's in the 1/4 with few mods. Anyways, I know the Camaro will not perform as well as the Vette same year stock for stock or mod for mod. This is not the point of my thread. I think I know the way I will go, but not etched in stone yet!

I finally voted my own poll!

I have decided to stick with the Camaro. Riding in fbodfather's CTF Thor (thanks to fbod for lending the car to number3 to come to FL with), thanks to number3 and Mrs. number3, and some great threads and post, it has helped me realize the Camaro is the car for me. I think it is great that Chevy has put 2 cars out there that make this decision as hard as it was, but a lil soul searchin, a great ride, and a couple slap in my face post(1 real good one from dragoneye, simple but a great point!), I know that I am making the right decision for me.

Want to thank the mods, admins, fbodfather, number3 and all the great members for helping me reach my decision. Thanks and thanks again, this forum is outstanding!!!
