I will be surprised seeing myself driving a $300,000 camaro! Just seeing one.

you drive a Honda right? most of those aren't built in the United States.

Not only can a new Camaro be bought for less than $22k OTD, I just did it two weekends ago on a 2014 1LS. The MSRP was $24k and change. The dealership was offering almost $3800 to get rid of it, plus there was a $1,000 rebate from GM. The selling price before tax, title, license was just under $20k ($19,871 if I recall).

Also, to the previous conversations about housing prices and affordability, it's all in perspective. Consider that $25,000 in 1995 is now worth almost $39,000 in today's dollars, because of inflation.

Vehicles have more or less kept pace with inflation, and they're a better value today than they were in 1995. A cheap car back then (a Geo Metro) was just over $8,000 brand new. Today, the cheapest car in America is the Nissan Versa, with an MSRP of just over $12,000. There's more technology and safety engineered in the Versa versus the Metro, but if we adjust the MSRP for inflation, it's right around what a cheap car cost in 1995.

You could also pick up a brand new Z28 in 1995 for just over $18,000. Let's not call it a Z28, not by today's standards. Today's Z28 is a different animal, but we can compare it to the entry price of buying a Camaro with a V8, which would put us in 1SS territory, MSRP of just over $33,000.

Inflation would put the cost of a 1SS at around $28,000 but compared to 1995, the "base V8" Camaro also has almost 150 more horsepower (275 versus 426) and is a better, safer, and faster vehicle overall. If we compare performance specs with the V6 model, you can see that the Camaro has become a better value over time.

Just FYI and something to think about.

Got a 1SS/RS this month off a dealer in the Northeast (Read: expensive) for under $32k. I would hardly consider that value the same.

Yes, it's not all the bells and whistle of the 2SS (closer to 40k), but you're comparing it to a stripped down LT anyway.

If you made 3x what you earn right now, would you still be picking a fight on this forum? The answer is no - you would just go buy something you consider "frugal", but it may be expensive by another person's standard.

For the record ALL my cars are paid for in full title in hand except the Ford (3 years to go). I have a decent sized savings (not bragging) am homeless (haha company paid housing), but will be paying cash for a house within the next year. I WILL BE RETIRED by 40 with a nice paid for house and stock of cars. I also have no kids and am single, Life is pretty good for me and I choose not to be frugal but I also work insane crazy hours, tons of ot, and have no expensive habits (drinking, smoking, gambling, clothes, partying etc).

I wouldn't call a 2SS Camaro "super expensive", it's definitely up there for a Chevy but no where close to "super expensive." When you start looking at a car that you could buy a decent size house outright for like a Ferrari/Lambo/Aston Martin/etc... then you're at "super expensive"

Average price for a NEW good car w/ some options these days is upper $20's. Considering I paid ~$35k for my 2SS Camaro brand spanking NEW, I'm only what? $6-8k above average. That's not bad at all, especially as I plan to hold on to it for at least 10+ years, definitely as long as possible if not my whole life.

Some people have different priorities in life, some like to travel, some like to spoil their kids, others like to buy cars. I fall in the latter, I don't have any kids to spoil, I travel every now and again but nothing expensive, and I am obsessed with CARS. By no means am I rich, I just sacrifice in other areas for the Camaro.

Well...depending on if you financed that $40k for 3-4 years in full, the payment would be about what a house would be with a 30 year loan :P
