I think you've answered your own question. If you're even remotely thinking of getting the SS now then you'll always have that lingering thought in the back of your mind if you go with the LT. I'm not saying you won't be satisfied with the LT just that you'll wonder "what if I went with the SS". However, the bottom line is not so much as what do you want but what can you afford as a comfortable expense for this ride-----all things considered --not just the monthly payments because believe me you'll definitely have the desire to do some MODs once you get your ride. Either way good luck and congratulations because your about to join the elite group of Camaro owners.

It's good to ask for advice. Everybody makes a good point. I got the V6 and love it. 2Lt/RS/Rally stripes. I had a 77' V8 and loved It too. I can't see not driving my car every day. If money were not an issue, I would have got the V8, but I have to have a life. You must have balance in your life Grasshopper.

The V6 is no slouch.....it may already be a huge performance increase over what you're driving now. If you don't "need" the extra power, save some a bunch of money and go for the V6. Test drive both if you're not sure.
GET AN INSURANCE QUOTE ON THE SS. A few people have mentioned this already, but insurance on a V8 may be a deal breaker for a younger guy. When I've sold a couple of my previous cars I had A LOT of younger guys who were interested until they saw how much their insurance was going to be. The higher cost & insurance of the SS may not be an issue for those who are lucky enough for mommy & daddy to buy them the car and/or pay for the insurance. If someone is paying their own way, has other financial responsibilites (rent/mortgage, utilities, food, etc.) and doesn't want to get themselves in a financial bind, then the V6 may be the right choice.

It honestly depends on what you want and what are you options. If you want to be on the safe side with money I say wait a little bit for the SS. But if you feel like you will lose money from you current car ( repairs ) then I say go with the LS.

I'm a furure Camaro owner too and I've made up my mind on the V6. I would say if you're serious about the V8 in a matter of months you may want to wait. In the mean time go test drive both of them and weigh the pros and cons of each.
For me the V6 is both powerful and economic. I plan on upgrading the suspension, intake and exhaust. In a few years we could be paying $5.00 a gallon for gas. I remember a lot of V8's (trucks mostly) going for sale two years ago when gas was $3.00-$3.50. Personally, I don't want to buy a V8 and 5 years from now sell because the gas prices are killing me. |

OP, get what fits your budget for now...V6 or SS, is a winner. You have the rest of your life to get whatever floats your boat (or ego) later. |

Old IROC's were quick, and so are the new V6's. Not SS fast, but still quick none the less. |

I would modify your statement to say :"big $$ on any car and it can be faster than a Stock SS." (that would include turbo or supercharger) And why would it matter if its a 6 or 8? my points remain relevant regardless. I can't help get a kick out of some here that argue against a V6 cause it's slow, but then criticize any modded V6's that are faster than most stock SS's, and a few heavily modded ones, especially when they themselves weren't content with just a stock SS V8, and had to mod them as well
