Fuse Pull - Other GM Vehicles
Alright, I am curious. Can any resident auto techs testify if there exists a fuse pull mod (fuel mapping) for other GM vehicles?
Here is why I started to look into this. My mom drives a '10 Yukon Denali (Vortec 6.2L V8). When I drove it, I noticed the accelerator is quite unresponsive. For example, after coming to a complete stop, the driver will depress the pedal one half to 3/4 of an inch, and the throttle will take 3/4 to one whole second to respond. In my Camaro SS, the response is immediate - depress the pedal slightly, the vehicle will give instant feedback and accelerate with precision. On the flip side, when the pedal of the Denali is depressed 1-2 inches, the throttle responds much the same way, but with quite a shove. The best way I could describe the feeling would be to caption the process: *Green Light* Driver: *depress accelerator pedal* Denali: "Oh, now I am supposed to go...vroooom!" Driver: *Butt dyno registers: "In the back of the seat"* As a family, we always drove SUVs and used regular grade fuel. With these newer models, especially after my experience with 87 octane fuel in the SS, I recommended to mom that she try using premium fuel for her truck. After the change there was improvement in both power and how the engine ran, but that lag in the pedal was/is still present. Call it a pet peeve, but when I am sitting in the driver's seat, all it does is drive me nuts. Any recommendations?

Sounds like how the drive by wire system is designed for that truck.

yup, just crappy electronic throttle response. You can improve that - pedal movement to actual throttle movement rate - in the tuning. I noticed when I put the Diablo tune (93 octane tune) in my Camaro, the throttle response was much more rapid. Easily to tell that throttle reaction table was tinkered with.
On the fuse pull thing. I believe only cars that are designed to run on premium, have the two table configuration. One for 91 and one for 87. So if it's just an 87 octane vehicle, it's not going to have the other table. Plus, even with two tables, it is supposed to switch back to the high octane table once the spark knock stops after the person starts using premium again. The Camaro glitch on early L99 cars is just from some nit wit that blundered the programming. I've never heard of any other models with that glitch. |

Hmmm, so is this something that the dealership's auto shop can adjust?

No, changing the tuning is done through aftermarket stuff only.
