Bent my 3 piece wheel tonight on a pothole with my Vette

Not a happy camper. One the way to go shopping with the wife, we were traveling about 35mph and do to traffic I was unable to avoid it. Slam and it flatted part of the lip.

The lip is replaceable, then I need to break down the wheel, powdercoat, rebuild the wheel, then remount.

Lip - 225
Powdercoat - 100
Mount break down the wheel, rebuild the wheel, and remount - 100
Total cost I am out about 450 dollars.

I got a claim number from the police report I filed so I can use it on insurance but doubt they will cover it nor the city.

bummer. I'm surprised I haven't bent a wheel in any of my cars yet. I've hit some pot holes pretty hard on all sorts of different wheels.

What was the original cost for the 4 rims on your Vette?

Do you think I could file a report with the city because these "dips" in the middle of a 40mph road are too drastic? hahaha Get the underside of my bumper repainted on my Camaro.......... but seriously, that part of the street is TORE UP cars scraping

Since the road has prior repair I might have a chance.

Retail on a my wheels is around 7500.

Ouch!

At least you don't have to replace the entire wheel, but still... ouch.

Yeah man I would see what you could do to get the city to pay for it. They won't want a while bunch of people getting fired up about potholes (number one complaint in most cities about roads). They might just pay it to "keep the peace" LOL

That sucks but that is one of the reasons I decided to go with 20s instead of 22s for my wheel set up. Less risk of something like this happening with a thicker tire. Being out $450 blows but it's better than having to buy a new wheel.

Have someone else call and report it, get a case #, then call and complain that you hit it and it caused damage. In a lot of cities, if a pothole has been reported but not repaired, the city will pay for damages. If it has not been reported and you are calling to report that it damaged your car, you are out of luck.
Might be worth a try?

Your car was embarrassed about having too much dirt on it, lowered its self esteem. If it was cleaned up and shining it wouldn't have flinched. Just bustin your balls man :P
