Angry CHECK ENGINE LIGHT...

Hey guys, I had to move the camaro tonight simply from the left side of my driveway to the right side to make room. First off, i put the key in the ignition, turned it, NOTHING happened . I turned it again, and nothing happened again. I tried once more and the car started. Then the "Service Stabilitrak" and wrench symbol came up....I moved the car, turned it off and waited about 40 minutes before i started it again (i have heard sometimes the light goes on because of misfires or something loose) This time, the check engine light came on and nothing else....I had to drop my girlfriend off, it was 15 miles round trip, during that time i called OnStar and they told me i have a "Transmission Control" error. I have no clue what this means and OnStar didnt do the best job of explaining what it meant. Can somebody please help, is this something I should be worried about or what? I cant afford to have chevy keep the car for god only knows how long.

Well, OnStar reps aren't exactly technical experts, so they wouldn't be able to tell you much beyond what the car is telling them via preset error codes. Take it to the dealer and have them check it out. They'll be able to tell you exactly what's going on (or close enough)

If they've got to keep it for a day or more, they'll give you a loaner per the warranty. Probably a nice Impala or Malibu. I hope it's nothing too serious, though!

I recently had that happen to me a few different times....very strange...I would turn the car off, wait a few minutes, turn it back on, and it wouldn't happen again...
When I took the car to the dealer a few weeks ago for an oil change, I mentioned it to them...the service guy said it was fine...
Hasn't happened since...**knock on wood**

Try here. Not the most helpful, but you may find a better explanation than OnStar:

My traction control light comes on sometimes. I just press and hold the button down to turn it off, then back on and it clears.

I've had my Camaro for over 2 months now. It has 1350 miles on it.

The check engine light has been on more than it has been off. I have a recurring problem with a "Tighten Gas Cap" message. Every time it happens twice, it sets that damn light on. It's been into the dealship 3 times, each time overnight while they replace valves, selenoids, gas caps, hoses, but it still happens virtually every day. I've gone so far as to buy a code scanner just to turn it off.

Sorry guys, but you touched a button. I'm tired of the repeated trip to the dealership. They are always very cordial and they always do a bunch of work, but NOTHING fixes it. Perhaps I could just remove the bulb behind that icon on the dash?

Just as an FYI....when you call onstar for a code reading you can always ask to talk to a technical expert who will tell you more detail about a given code being tripped. They actually are pretty good if you give them a shot.

Obviously an Auto trans>>>>
have you checked fluids? Were you on a slope where fluid would have not been reading on the sensor properly?
Also and I know it sounds wierd but I have seen it happen before. Bad gas can set off transmission codes. Are you using good gas from good stations?
I would not worry too much as long as you are not getting a solid engine light. Blinking light is not as bad of issue. Also if serious enough your engine would convert to limp mode and you would know it is serious.

Good luck

Lemon law it. At least in Florida, dealer gets 3 attempts to fix the same issue. Then you file a complaint and they get 1 final attempt.

Hey guys, i called chevy today, they told me what happens to most of the new cars since its all computers is that when the engine started, it didnt receive a response from the trans. control module right away and immediately and thats why the light came on. I told them the codes (I have an OBD 2 scanner) and they said it lost communication and it caused the light to come on. They told me to start it a few times and it should be off, and sure enough when I was taking my father to go and place an order for the 2011 convertible, the light went off .

And yes the tranny is an auto, and I wasnt on a slope, and i only put 93 octane gas in the car. This problem seems to be typical with the computers in newer cars.
