Fluid change at dealer?
Since I'm trying to keep documents of all my oil changes and services in case something goes wrong and I need to prove proper maintenance, I have a question.
I am planning on changing all my fluid before C5fest, but doing at the dealer would probably be more expensive than the local jiffy lube etc. As long as I get a receipt of the service, do you think there will be a problem in case something happens? I know it seems paranoid, but I always like to be on the safe side. |

Some people are paranoid but unless the dealership is doing free oil changes I would not take it to them and they CAN NOT require it for warranty.
I do my own oil changes and I keep my recepits, date/time stamps and mileage info for when it was changed.

You're right, I've never seen it happen first hand, but I've heard of it happening with other car companies. Ask GTAHVIT about what happened with his Mazda. And I live in an apartment, I have nowhere to do it, myself. |

Just keep receipts and a log book of all oil changes like I mentioned regardless if it was done at a dealer, jiffylube or by yourself. If you ever did have trouble and they wanted to try and deny warranty they wouldnt have any legal grounds to do so.
FWIW, I've seen the aftermath of quick oil change stores and I just wont use them anymore. They do not drain all the old oil out of the car. (it takes more than 5 minutes for it all to drain.. even upwards of 20 minutes to really get it all out of there) They also over tighten oil drain plugs (and filters) and in many cases people find out they dont have the proper amount of oil in the car. Im not saying a dealership cant make the same mistakes, but at least dealership people are trained by the mfg to do what they do rather than some kid who needs a part time job.

I will never trust a Jiffy Lube to touch any car of mine again. I used to have an old beater of a Pontiac Grand Am and I took it to Jiffy Lube for fluid changes three consecutive times.
All three times, they left my power steering fluid cap loose and all of my power steering fluid bubble out of the reservoir on the drive home and created a hellacious mess. Two of the three times, I found the engine and transmission dipsticks loose. Just don't even do it, and shame on me for waiting til the third time to swear them off for life.

Also think about it. If you have to drive to the jiffy lube then your oil is hot and not in the pan. A quick 5 min drain wont get anything out due to the lack of oil in the pan.
