Borla S-type CB + headers to loud?

Hey guys, maybe you can help me. Im thinking of buying the Borla S-type Cat Back exhaust and adding on some headers. So far I like Kooks 1 7/8th, stainless works, and ARH is ok also I suppose.

I found a video of the Borla touring with kooks here

and a video of Borla S type with same kooks here

I like the S type exhaust sound better than the touring sound in those videos, but I cant find a video of normal driving with it... Is it going to be to loud? I have seen many people complain that their borla ATAK + headers was to loud for a daily driver, and I dont want that to happen with the S type + header combo...

I just dont wanna be that car you hear from 2 miles away, unless of course Im racing

Any advice?

P.S. how much does the size of the header affect the sound, from 1 3/4'' all the way to 2''?

Go for it, i have the s type with high flow cats. Very qiuet at idle until you give it gas.

but do you have long tube headers? as these headers drastically make the car louder...

and at what rpm does it start to get loud approx... 3500?

I've been talking with a shop in my area that specializes in high performance. They said that while the Borla S-type catback has a nice sound with factory manifolds, it is quite obnoxious with long tube headers.

If you're like me, you want a throaty muscle car sound, but don't want to be annoying to the neighbors in the neighborhood.

I've been stuck on this dilemma for a while as well, the s-type by itself doesnt sound too obnoxiously loud but put some headers on it too... different ball park I'm thinking.

Can anyone post up a video of the Borla touring catback with headers?? Maybe an in car video as well as some drive bys?

yes thats true and thats what I want... i know the s-type cat back sounds nice without headers, but I like the sound headers give off... i just wish it wasnt so loud! lol

For daily driving, is it really that obnoxious? or only really when you give it some gas... because daily driving rpms usually dont exceed 3500 RPM and if the car isnt to loud at that RPM, ill be fine with it

i think in that video they are trying to make it loud. i don't think S type is that loud with headers, just make sure you get high flow cats with the headers.

Or NO cats.

Borla Long Tube Headers, Borla 'S' Type Catback Exhaust, Fastlane 'Pipeline' Cold Air Intake, T&T Performance Tune. No cats.

My thoughts are, it will be quite loud at start up. (I want to stay in good with my neighbors, so I don't want anything that is going to get them thinking differently of me). LOL

They seemed to think that the touring system with headers would be the way to go. I am still in the process of discussing different options. I just don't want to jump into this and have regrets either on volume, or sound quality.

Honestly...what you want to do, and what I'm going to be doing as well...is try to find someone close to you with the system you're thinking of getting and see if they will let you listen to it and/or take you for a ride as well. All these sound clips and suggestions are good, but it is nothing like in person. When all is said and done, each individual has his own preference and taste as to what is good.

Start putting out some feelers to be able to listen to these systems in person. There are bound to be people out there that have this system that you can get together with.

I was thinking that if hte system is to loud, perhaps I could put back on the stock mufflers? As there is no real significant difference in power output from the muffler to tail pipe from stock to borla, but not sure if id want to

Stock with only Borla S

Borla S with Stainless Works 2" long tubes, RotoFab CAI, cam, and no cats

Same setup as previous but with DMH cutouts open. You can hear me open and close them

same setup as above but with Whipple supercharger added to mix.

Hope this helps give you some idea as to the difference in sound with the different mods.

yes there is no HP gain from changing mufflers. but i am going to bet you are going to keep the borlas on. i have corsa with headers, and corsa is pretty loud. and my neighbors have yet to say my car is too loud. at low RPM its fine.
