JBA or Doug Thorley Shorty Headers
I am planning to buy headers this week and was wanting to hear from someone that has them installed. I have heard the JBA headers have plug wire issues? Anyone experienced any issues with the JBA's?

I love LT's, but the tune issue is what I am trying to avoid. Hence Shortys for me.

Really the shorties arent going to give you any HP increase, if thats what you are looking for! Probably make it a bit louder!?!? And dress the engine compartment look better!
Go check out Ivan@SouthwestSpeed on here and ask him!!! I am sure he might be able to help you out!

If you have to have Short Tube headers, then shop some HF Cats to go along with em.
I can tell you that they are great looking and will def improve the appearance under the hood, but as far as performance goes, they won't give you the perverbial bang for the buck that LTs will. Adding a nice set of HF Cats to them changes that game completely however. Best luck and don't hesitate to PM us if you have any other questions! Ivan |

I chose Doug Thorley for looks and finish over any other brand. Also anything you can do to help your engine breath better will help performance. If you do car shows do the shorty's first, then go back and do the high flow cats as you get the money. I did the shorty's with FlowMasters AT and the sound is awesome ...

The fact remains Why buy something that does nothing, and shorty Headers Do Nothing.
The whole reason for purchasing Performance parts is to get Performance. The only way to get Performance out of Headers is to buy REAL headers, LONG TUBE HEADERS. Sorry to be so Honest. Ted.

Ted is right! The only other reason to buy shorties is for looks alone! I can understand wanting to get shorties for warrany and emissions reasons but DON'T expect any performance bump from them! Speaking from experience, I wish I would have listened to guys like Ted last year when I got mine! The stock manifold, I have heard, actually flows quite well. Best thing to do if you don't want to tune is just do high flow cats. Best bang for the buck! Keep the stock manifolds and cat back!
So in answer to the OP's question, I'm obviously in favor of the Doug Thorlies! |

I have Doug Thorley LTs w/ Magnaflow HF cats 2.5" -- I like them and they're different.

yeah...the stock manifolds flow well (compared to former manifolds); and yeah, anyone expecting more than 8-10 from shorties is stoned; but with all that said, I went short (JBA) to maintain emissions and improve the flow into the HF cats I already had (SOLO). So I can still pass the annual tests, and only gained 9RWHP and 14RTWG (conveniently managed before and after tunes) from the shorties alone.
To your original question, no issues at all with the JBA and plug wires. I think the DTs may look a little sharper than the JBAs, but I got a really good deal for the SS's. If you were to just go shorties and maintain your stock headers, I'd be amazed if you even saw 5 hp to the tires. Good luck.

For those that say shorties will do nothing, read this thread:
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79379 Shortys on the V8 showed significant gains as well: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47014
