If YOU HAVE LT HEADERS PLEASE READ!!!!

For those out there with LT headers and custom tunes are you having any problems getting through the emissions process? I have been trying for 2 months to get through it and I have been working with Ted, but I am being told after a 3rd emissions tune that I may have to change out the headers to get it to pass. In TN all readiness monitors have to be in the "Ready" state and no CEL for it to pass.

This morning I got the dread CEL P1133

DTC P1133
Circuit Description
The powertrain control module (PCM) monitors the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) activity. Within a 100 second test period, the PCM counts the number of times that the HO2S signal voltage crosses the rich-to-lean-to-rich thresholds. If the PCM determines that the HO2S did not switch enough times, DTC P1133 will be set. A lean-to-rich switch is determined when the HO2S voltage changes from less than 300 mV to more than 600 mV. A rich-to-lean switch is determined when the HO2S voltage changes from more than 600 mV to less than 300 mV.

Vendors and those with this experience please chime in..

Thanks for your time!!

Last time I had an issue get my car inspected I had to have all but 2 monitors in readiness mode. I had a CEL on my '01 Impala from a bad spark plug. I used a scanner from Autozone to figure it out and then cleared it. If with the CEL gone it wasn't in Ready mode. They told me it could take 50 - 100 miles to get the monitors back into "Ready" mode after they had been cleared.

I had to go get on the highway and drive a while and then came back. After two attempts at that I got it in ready mode in order to pass.

Maybe your monitors haven't had enough time to get into "Ready" mode after the tunes. Go drive it 50 miles or so and have it inspected again.

Yeah.. I got the dreaded CEL this morning P1133...

I contacted Ted back at this point and he stated that I may have to put teh stick headers back on for the test... Surely there is a way around this and that would be a pain in the butt to do that every year.

Depending on local law and how the tests are conducted it can be very difficult, even impossible, to pass emissions tests with headers and high flow cats. In some places, any modification to the stock exhaust from the cats forward is an automatic "fail".

Thanks Chase.. In TN as long as we have CATs and all the sensors we are good, but it has to be acheived with no CEL and all the monitors in the "Ready" state.

I had a fail after a tune. The mechanic told me I had to let it cold soak for 8 hours then put some miles on it and bring it directly to him. I put about 50 miles on and passed. Just passed my first inspection with headers and high flow cats with no problems

Do you know what all was involved and was it for the same code I posted P1133?

Thanks,

Ray

I installed spark plug antifoulers in my rear sensors, and "did not turn off those sensors",
they have been like that for over a year and have had no CEL's. I did the same thing to my buddys 08 Bullet after he was having the same issues "and not able to get it inspected", after installing the antifoulers he had all the emissions related items turned back on, and has passed for the last two years. and no CEL's to date.

+1 in most cases these days you can pass an emmisions test with a professional tune. We've taken some pretty extreme cars into inspection with our fingers crossed and passed. One guy even commented on how sick our car sounded. Supercharged/cammed/long tubes and no cats. He asked us to rev it up for him after we passed. So it's all about making sure you tune those codes out. We sell everything you need to tune cars yourself but unless you know what your doing we recomend you get a tune done by a professional.

Thanks.. I am trying that today. I went at lunch at got the anti foulers and had the local NAPA machine shop to drill them out so all I have to do is the install.

I wished I could get that done with my existing tune.

Jannety tuned it with SCT and the car runs perfect it's just the emission trouble

I may have to go the HP Tuner route because trying to get this thing to pass emssion for over a month is killing me

Thanks.. I do not have a background in tuning so I would probably do more harm than good with that aspect of it.

Thanks to everyone that replied and I appreciate everyones time with this.. This is a great site in which everyone tries to help others out in their time of need.
