RPI gill insert help.

So I got the RPI ABS gill inserts. They fit ok, but do not conform to the gills very well. The gills are curved and the inserts are flat. The real problem is the adhesive is not strong enough to hold them in the corners.and they keep popping up. They come with 3M but the thin stuff, and I don't want to use the good 3M tape because it is too thick. What would be the best way to get them to stick and stay stuck?

Need to clean the paint with Methyl Hydrate, won't hurt the paint and will get the wax off.

I washed it, hit it with goo gone, and then rubbing alcohol shouldn't that be enough?

Not sure about rubbing alcohol. Methyl Hydrate does'nt have that greasy feeling. But than again i'm no expert.

Rubbing alcohol should definitely be sufficient. I've seen lots of stick on stuff that calls for an alcohol wipedown.

Hopefully someone with those inserts will chime in. It doesn't sound right that they would be flat. That just doesn't make any sense. Maybe you got a bad set?

I have them and they had a curved shape for sure. Went on easy with soapy water in spray bottle/cloth and they were all labeled :rf,rm,rr. They look great and have taken touchless car washes and the trusty house hose np.

Note: You need to spray gill area with soapy water apply decal and move/stretch into position the using a cloth remove excess water , repeat drying with cloth while holding in position. Also be sure you are applying them correctly according to the labels on the top of each one. No other form of adhesive is needed nor imho recommended.

Do you have the decals or the ABS style? I have the ABS they are like 1/8 inch thick plastic. They are cut to match the gills so they line up but lay flat.

I got the ABS plastic ones and they didn't conform to the gills, so same problem as you're having. Kind of annoying, ended up buying the vinyl ones and putting those on.

I was thinking about vinyl but I thought the black ABS would stand out a little better on CGM. They are supposed to be sending me more adhesive so I'll give it another shot, but at this point they look like crap.

I'm not all that familiar with ABS or working with it, but what about hitting it with a little heat? Would that soften it up a little so you could get it stuck on and then hopefully it would hold the new curved shape?

the ABS ones are junk, just cut your loses and get the vinyl or the defenderworks ones.

Yeah I think that is the key. I am going to take them off and heat them and bend them so they form to the shape then try to reinstall. If they ever send me the new adhesive like they said they would.
