Weird switch wiring issue

Hey guys, weird electrical issue here, wondering if anyone has any ideas. So I installed my AAC Halo's recently and the wiring at the switch is giving me some grief. Basically, i have the halo's wired to a 12v source under the hood, and the ground for the halos coming into the car to the switch. I am doing it this way because they are dual color halos (each color is a separate ground). So, when i hook up the switches the halos come on, ever so slightly (very very dim, but on) when the switch is off. When you flip the switch on the halo comes on, and so does the little LED on the switch. Now if i disconnect the 12v line from the switch, the halos are completely off when the switch is off, but of course when i flip the switch on the little led on the switch doesn't illuminate, although the halos still work fine. For now i have just pulled the 12v line off the switch until i figure this one out.. could it be possible the switch is bad or have I miffed the wiring??

Its a SPST LED switch from emblem pros, but they only show wiring diagrams for switching on the 12v lead, not switching on ground like i am trying to do.

Thanks for any help

You need to make sure you have a 3 position switch with it doesn't sound like you do that could be your first problem. It doesn't matter if you are switching ground or power it's just a break in the line. Check the diagram again and make sure it's wired right

Does the LED SPST switch have three lugs on it? If so, there is one lug for 12v input, one lug for the 12v output and the third lug is the ground return for the led. You will need a spdt switch with ground hooked to the common lug, and each color hooked to the outer lugs. Could also use a center off spdt, if you want the option of no halos.

the LED SPST switch most likely the ground part of the switch is for the little LED that is on the switch,
I have not seen the wiring on the dual color halos but if they are a reverse polarity for the different colors where each wire is power or ground depending on what color you want seems like you would need relays to do it correctly and do a 5 wire set up.
But I do not know for sure since I have not seen them.

Huh, so i guess the switch that AAC provides just doesn't work like you would expect. It is a SPST switch with 3 poles and an LED indicator for "ON". I figured it would be setup to have 1 pole supply the 12v just for the led and the other two switch ground, but i guess not. Kinda stinks considering that this is basically how you have to wire the dual halos, short of using a relay. I just wanted one switch to turn on the white and one switch to turn on the red..

Anyone have a link to a switch that would work that way? There must be one that has the power supply for the led on the switch separate from the terminals that get switched..

Here is a photo of how i wanted to wire it, right now i have just pulled the 12v lead off the switches and it works just fine, although the indicator on the switch never lights up of course..

Not sure but, ACC may have been running the 12volts through the switch to power the halos. When the switch is on, 12 volts is supplied to the halos and the LED. In your configuration, when the switch is off, the LED is in series with the halos to ground, and the LED lights, and the halos light up dim, as the led is limiting the current through the circuit. Can't explain why the halos turn on when the switch is on in this configuration. Not knowing the internal configuration of the switch just means it is nothing more than SWAG on my part.

if you want 1 switch I would look up a switch like for a door lock that has an up and down and middle. then wire up 2 5 wire relays. If what you are needing is a reverse polarity for the dual colors. If you need more info I can post the diagrams for it.
