Ever thought about getting your heads done since they will already be off?

That cam will be very streetable. Good manners and good power below 230/230 .620/.620 u still need a good tune so make it so

Well, biggest challenge right now is funds to do what I was quoted. I'm really early in my research so we shall see.

Looks like everything is covered... might want to think about a Torque Converter too but if funds are a concern why not just leave the heads on for now and put in a VVT cam. You can still get the nice lope and keep it very streetable.
That would save a few $$$ and get you the same results... |

Interesting thought. I will need to do some research on those. So that would negate having to do the ls3 conversion correct? I'm still learning so I apologize if thats a stupid question.

Yes it would. Since you are doing a smaller cam with no Torque Converter I would definitely look into just putting in a VVT cam. Lot's of good threads around here and there are some good power benefits to keeping VVT. There is only really one downside and it's keeping the stock lifters but they make VVT cams that are lifter fiendly.

The problem with DOD lifters is that you are limited to .500" lift and can't really take advantage of how well the heads flow, being that the LS3 has .551" from the factory and much of it's power difference is because of that.

Torque Converter is the best bang for buck. You could also go with a bigger cam if you had one. Only my opinion, I would do the LS3 conversion.

You can get a VVT cam with high lift, but you'll need to replace the DOD/AFM lifters. Going phaser-only is a solid plan for broader power under the curve. VVT is a real performance advantage if your installer/tuner knows how to work the right combo.
