I will be chaning my differntial fluid this weekend to Amsoil 75w-90. Does a lubricant additive need to be added to the Amsoil container? Thanks for the help

Check with Amwayoil . Some products (Redline) dont need posi additive .

I used Slip-lock from Amsoil to go along with their Severe Gear 75W-90.

I did try it the Severe Gear 75W-90 without the additive first as Amsoil seems to state in their website to add additive only when needed. Unfortunately, I was getting groaning noises from the differential. I shoud note that I did do a few tight figure 8s in an empty parking lot after changing the fluid. The noises do go away after the differential warms up from driving several miles, but comes right back once you let the car sit for a couple of hours. After driving around like this for a few days, I changed the fluid again along with 2oz. of the Slip-lock additive (only added half of the tube since I did not want to add too much). I've driven 2.5k noise free miles since then.

I put in royal purple. It already has the additive in it.

I am changing my diff.fluid this weekend.I have never done this before,is it really that simple? I understand i need to get some sort of pump to do this.Those that know, i would appreciate any input,thanks.

YES, you need something to pump it into the diff because of how high it sits. Be prepared because gear oil STINKS!!!! It is the worst smelling of all of the oils in our car.

Something simply like this should work.

I was able to change out mine (V-6) without using my gear lube pump. Just put my finger over the hole on the top of the Mobil 1 bottle, maneuvered it up into place and stabbed it. Had a paper towel or two handy. I added some limited-slip additive into the bottle first, as there's room.

Gear lube does indeed stink. Years ago I spilled a little fresh 75W-90 outside my front door and I swear, I smelled a whiff of it for a year afterwards every time I opened the door.

Just one. I bought two because I like to play it safe. Can't remember if I put any of the second bottle in it or not. If I did it was very little.

You do not need a pump. There is enough room to lift the bottle up there and hold it.

I just refilled mine last night using the GM Lube and additive. A short piece of Tygon tubing (clear plastic) on the spout will help. No pump needed. There's enough room to maneuver the bottle and with the tygon you can get the lube in the diff housing without any spillage.
