Stereo upgrading
I've been going through thread after thread after thread trying to find definitive answers and I can't seem to pin point the answers I'm looking for.
![]() Every time I search through one topic to find an answer, something catches my eye which seems to bring up more questions. I'm going to do a full stereo system overhaul while keeping the stock head unit. I've already ordered and received the ******** FARK and front firing sub box. Subs and dynamat were ordered and are currently in transit. Once I get my taxes refund in next week, the amps will be ordered. I was looking into dynamatting when I ran into a post about speaker mounts. While trying to find information on speaker mounts, I saw front speaker wire harnesses. I need to have all component pieces to my stereo in my possession by April 13th when I head up to CT for an event. I have my list of stereo components I'm getting but it's making sure I can get it done right the first time without having to reinstall later. So here are my questions: 1) I've ordered 50 sq ft of dyanmat @ 50 mils (33.5' L X 18" W). Will this be enough to cover the entire trunk and the doors? 2) When putting in aftermarket speakers in the doors and rear deck, are speaker mounts/adapters REQUIRED? I could get a set of each from ********: front door speaker adapters 6x9 rear deck mounts 3) For the front component door speakers, is this wire harness required since I have the BA system: front door replacement harness That's all that I can think about now. I'll just re-bump this thread if I have additional questions. For anyone who is interested, this is what I'm putting into my stereo: All Rockford Fosgate Amp for subs: T1500-1bdCP 1500 Watt Class-bd Constant Power Amplifier 1000 Watts x 1 @ 4-Ohm ![]() Amp for doors: T600-4 600 Watt 4-Channel Amplifier 100 Watts x 4 @ 4-Ohm ![]() Subs (pair): P3D4-12 12" Punch P3 4-Ohm DVC Subwoofer 600 Watts RMS /1200 Watts Max ![]() Door 6.5" component speakers: T1652-S 6.5" 2-Way Component System 100 Watts RMS / 200 Watts MAX ![]() Deck 6"x9" speakers: T1692 6"X9" 2-Way Full-Range Speaker 100 Watts RMS / 200 Watts MAX ![]() Subs box: 2010-2011 Camaro Front Firing Dual Subwoofer Box (******** but not these subs) Factory Amp Replacement Kit:

1) Dunno
2) The front definitely, the rear you could probably get away with it but you'd be drilling/screwing into the deck. Its easier/quicker/cleaner to just get the adapter or make your own. 3) Yes unless you cut the factory one off and crimp or solder the new ones that come with your speakers. It was really nice to have and just plug the new speakers in when i did mine. |

You will need adapters for all your speakers. You will probably need more dynamat.
Why don't you upgrade your head unit. The after market will have a better s/n ratio and the quality imaging will sound better. You have chosen some very outstanding speakers and amps and your weakest link is going to be the heart of the system, the factory head unit. |

I'll take the head unit into consideration. I mostly run a USB drive through it and really nothing else, plus I like the look of the stock head unit.
Since I'll be running the FARK, I could always upgrade later on and not really disturb the set up I'm going to have.

When I went from my stock to my Alpine, the first thing that I noticed was the imaging, front and rear sound was much clearer, sharper and cleaner. Before with stock, it was too loud in the front and had to be faded to the rear. And now I have it at zero for front and rear and it sounds so much sharper. I was watching Top Gun in my car and it sounded like F-14's flying inside my car and I don't have my subs or amps hooked up yet.
I am just saying your putting so much money into your system and you left out the most important part, the head unit. Chevy made a great car, but the audio lacks in it and that is why you and myself felt it is necessary to upgrade it. I wish you were in my car and you would change your mind pretty quick. Did you watch my video? |

I disabled mine when it expired. I have a cell phone and the Alpine has a GPS. Why pay for that service when you already have those features? I am not sure if you could use them both. Your installer would know for sure.

As I mentioned in your video thread, I found the Alpine dash kit. I would need to buy a separate unit to retain my onstar.
I have the onstar for crash assistance and hands free calling, plus I like the monthly diagnostic reports

I figure if I am going to crash someone out there would have a cell phone if I am seriously wrecked and I can't make the call myself. When I was in an accident a year ago in my Charger, before I could get out of my car, 4 witnesses were already on the phone with the police.

I asked Steve about the front speaker harness. It's not necessary but makes it easier and don't have to cut OEM wires. I will probably get one, $10.50 isn't bad for the convenience. Wish I would have known everything I needed so I didn't have top make 4 seperate orders and pay more in shipping. I've had my car 2 1/2 years and haven't stopped shopping for improvements yet. It really adds up to do a system right.
