Engine oil cooler Kit ?

After cam and heads installation my engine oil temps are a lil higher.
Nothing to worry about (during normal driving) - but I just want to make sure..

Of course I already used the search button and found some interesting solutions:

Specific Camaro kitsGeneral KitsIf possible I would like to get a complete kit with everything included. Any suggestions are higly appreciated.

Only kit I know of. It could be done yourself cheaper and with better components. Thats why I decided against it.

So I found Setrab, Derale, Meister, EARL'S and Mocal. But:

I didn't get one yet, the wife just lost her job so no more parts for a bit. She found something else but no paychecks for a while. The nerve of her to do it during racing season.

I'm just going to piece one together. All you need is the billet adapter from one of a couple places, stuff to make the lines, the cooler, and some L shaped aluminum to make 2 brackets. That's it. Although since the header will come off I'll want to do engine mounts at the same time.

Size will depend on how much abuse you put it through and the ambient temps you do it in. If all you do is "normal" driving then you really don't need one at all. If you road race then you'll need a good sized one. You can go as cheap or as fancy as you want with thermostatically controlled or fan units. Although I'll probably just get a bigger one with no fancy crap. Its a sunday driver and track car so I'm not worried about cold weather never letting the oil get up to temp.

You can also consider a thermostat change, fan settings, and possibly a bigger radiator if you're hardcore. Or some water wetter in the radiator will help a bit too. I need to rob a bank first or do it super slow cause I want it all.

Has anybody tried these baffles yet? http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-pa...l#!prettyPhoto

If yes, any problem? If no, any concerns to look out for?

Thanks for any input!

It is a distribution block with -12AN fittings like this:
http://store.katechengines.com/bille...apter-p37.aspx
although that one comes with -10 fittings as sold.

I think, I like the oil filter sandwich adapter option better. Does one function better than the other? With the sandwich adapter you can leave the stock cooler in place. Only concern with the sandwich adapter is the oil filter will be closer to the ground. I do not feel it will be lowere than the cross member though.

This is a great thread. I am ready to purchase, just not sure which way to go.

Later

I removed my stock oil cooler. If I decide to go back to one, I will get something like the katech and run lines to it from an external non-oem cooler. I would just have to figure out where to mount the cooler. My car, if it ever gets running, will be just a driver/toy. If, and when, I ever decide to to do road racing or autocross, I will definitely put a cooler on it before I embark.

I have no experience with either so I cannot comment on the efficiency of one over the other. If you used a sandwich type adapter, wouldn't that negate the need for the factory oil cooler? It seems the sandwich adapter might not fit correctly or would put the outlet/inlet where it would interfere with headers and/or exhaust.

When removing your stock oil cooler wht did you do with the cooling lines? Especially the one that goes into the engine block? Did you just run a jumper and bi-pass old oil cooler? Or did you remove the cooling lines all together as well? Thanks for the help!

I removed the whole thing - cooler and lines and blocked off where the cooler went and where the line that goes into the block went. I changed to a different upper radiator hose as well.

I bought a block off plate (p/n 12577903) and a block off plug. I do not know the block off plug part number. I ordered it through gmpartshouse.com. The original part number (block off plug) I ordered was no longer in production or was superceded. However, they came through with a replacement. Their site doesn't show part numbers so I am not sure. The invoice for the original plug says "oem catalog" the one they sent comes from the "accessory catalog". They are the same price and probably the same item.

I also read somewhere that factory Non Z06 corvette oil cooler lines will bolt in.

I cannot remember where I read it though. Obviously, you would have to clip the lines and adapt them an external cooler of some sort. I am not sure of which would be cheaper, using an aftermarket block or using the factory one from the vette.

I tried to find the pn for the block off plug but cannot find it. I suppose you could contact gmpartshouse.com and have them reference order 28749601 (my invoice that included the plug)
