Question Help - cooling (thermostat)

Okay - I am having heat issues with my engine especially when racing when it doesn't get an hour in between to cool down. My temp reads 225 sometimes and it just won't cool.

So - what I want to do is throw in a 160 degree thermostat - any recommendations on parts for that?

Also - how can I get my fans to come on sooner. They don't seem to come on until the car is at around 200-212.

Thanks!

Sorry if these answers have already been provided somewhere, I spent a good 40 minutes searching the forums and can't find what I need.

Put a switch on your fans so that you can manually operate them when in the cool down stage and have them operate as intended when in daily drive mode.

I see from the picture that your oil temperature is around 225 (which doesn't seem too bad to me) but how is the coolant temp?

Coolant temp gets up to 225 when at start line for a race

Keep your heater on full blast to help pull heat out of the coolant. When the car is off keep the heat blowing until the air turns cool. Turn on car and wait for air to heat again. Then turn off car while leaving heat on again.

After sitting for an hour that would seem high. Has the warning on the DIC come on at all? Perhaps guages are not accurate?

When sitting for an hour it will start at about 180 and creep up to 200-215 before a race, if allowed to cool for 10-20 min I will be at 225 before running.

No warnings have come on, gauge reads below half mark but digital reads at 225.

Is yours a L99 or LS3? Stock my LS3 didnt get hotter than 192 F. With a 160 F stat and 454 LS7 motor it doesnt get hotter than 180 F even in traffic with a/c blasting!

Get a 160 deg stat and your going to need programming to turn the fans on sooner.

I had my fans reprogrammed to turn on sooner. I drove 4 hours straight on the highway thisweekend and my coolant never went over 195*.

all u need for installation is a ratchet, socket, and your 160* tstat. to get the fans to come on sooner you would need a reflash. Car runs much cooler now and sees far less KR on the dyno.
