Running Rich

I drove 550 miles this weekend mostly interstate. According to the DIC, the tank with 100% interstate and cruise set on 75 averaged 21.4 mpg.

I looked at the exhaust pipes today and they are black as black and full of soot. I guess the engine is running rich. Total miles on the car is 1150 miles.

Anyone else with black exhaust tips?

Aside: The tips on my 95 LT1 are squeekie clean. So are the tips on the 06 Mustang GT parked next to the SS!

I think after the 1500 breakin period the soot will be less. I had the same thing.

I have a 600 mile drive home this Friday so it will be interesting to see what they look like when I arrive.

I wouldn't be supprised to hear thar new cars default to a slightly rich condition for safety, until the computer 'learns' the proper fuel curves. But thats just a guess.
