Window Indexing Issue
Hey guys,
I noticed something strange today and I was wondering wether you guys had noticed it and if anyone might know a fix for it. My windows have always indexed normally and I have never gotten the needs indexing message in the DIC. But i looked over today when the ladyfriend got out of the car and i noticed the passenger window is lowing about an inch and a half. When the door closes it goes all the way up but im wondering why the amount it lowers changed. My driver's side window still goes down the normal 1/4 inch or so. This anything to worry about? Thanks a lot for any tips. -Richard |

Did you try re-indexing them since you noticed the issue? It will probably correct itself if you re-index them.

My pass side window stopped coming down when the door was opened..it was Cathie g on the rubber seal. Took it to the dealer this past Monday and it turns out they need to pull the door panel completely off and replace the whole thing. Re-indexing does nothing, it's broken somehow. Have to wait for the part from GM.

Did you try letting it relearn the indexing? A few times I've gotten a message on the DIC that said something like "Relearn window indexing" or something like that. You just have to lower the window and hold the button in for about 10 seconds or so then put it back up and hold the button for another 10 seconds and it should have relearned.

Thanks for the replies guys, I tried the relearning thing and no luck. I guess I'm gonna have to call up the dealership in the morning to see what they say about it. Any other ideas untill then?

I noticed that my driver's side indexing got smaller (about 1/8", but it wasn't hanging up on the window gasket) while my passenger's side got larger (about 1 1/2") about 6 months ago.
I couldn't get my windows to do the re-indexing that is described in the owner's manual - I tried every button combination (button halfway down, button all the way down), with the door open, etc., but had no luck. I ended up going to the fuse box under the hood and looking for the fuses labeled Power Window (I think 25 and 26) and pulling them for a few minutes. After plugging them back in, the DIC told me to reindex, and I haven't had the same problem again. |

disconnect the battery, car will tell you to re-index the windows. If that doesn't resolve it, take it in.

I think I found the trick to get it to stop asking you to index after it asks you to index; On the way up, after it gets up all the way, you have to hold the button up until the indexing notification goes out. How do you do an index if the car doesn't ask you for one? Like a driver initiated window indexing?
