X-Pipe vs. Straight pipe

Does anybody have any input on what's better for a more aggressive sound?

X for the win!!!

The factory has a menial "H" pipe in it.

Most every performance Catback has an "X" style incorperated.

I am certain someone will correct me if I am wrong, but x-pipes increase the scavenging from side to side (left cyl create lower pressure in the right side and thus pull more exhaust and vice versus) so they have better performance characteristics. H-pipes basically just equalize pressure between the two but you dont get the same scavenging effect.

That being said, in my personal experience (about 30 small block chevy's), X-pipes have always seemed to be louder than H-pipes and I dislike the sound of true straight pipes (with no X or H).

I will be going with a high-flow cat, rear cat delete and a resonated X-pipe. If thats still too quiet, I will do a muffler delete... but the X-pipe is a must IMO.

i think the op is actually trying to compare true duals to an x pipe.

That being said, I believe a true duals will be louder, but the x pipe will perform better.

the popping is not caused by a muffler delete, it's just made louder by it...and no an x-pipe will not get rid of it.

X pipe is still considered true duals. But yes an X or H pipe will perform better, even if only slightly. Tends to sound better as well. X pipe vs H pipe.....the X will generally flow a bit better up top but its a negligible difference. Seems like h-pipes tend to sound a little deeper and more old-school.

DO NOT GO STRAIGHT PIPE!!. Ok now I got your attention. I ran that for about a week and lots alot of HP and TRQ. She sounded mean as hell but could not spin a tire for shit. Called Ted at Jannetty racing and talked about it and he said I did lose HP and TRQ to the back wheels big time. So went back and had an X-PIPE put in to replace the L99 resonator I had taken out. Now she runs better than she did with the resonator and sounds meaner.

Magnaflow has a good x-pipe...i'll try to find the part number.

There are other companies that have x-pipes as well, but I don't want to give the wrong information.

EDIT:

Magnaflow Tru-X Pipe part# 10781

Magnaflow Tru-X Crossover part# 10791

The x crossover is the one that many use
