Window tint?

Alright everyone out there with tinted windows I have a question... I called the shop that I have tint all my windows and they quoted me like $280 to do my 2011. They said I should use some special 3M tint to keep from interfering with the antenna thats built in the back window. Has anyone had any problems with reception after tinting windows? Thanks

No problems since mine was tinted. I cant see how tint would affect reception since the antenae in the rear window is mostly picking up signal from the radio towers on the outside of the glass and the tint is on the inside of that antenae wire. The wire is still "looking" through clear glass.

Thats what I was thinking, he said the 3M tint was a higher end tint that had "reduced interference" I guess something to do with the material of the actual tint

280 is way to much for a 2 door car... Look for a price around $130-160 that is a fair price...

Yeah he said with the normal tint it'd be $150 but for the higher end 3M tint it was $280. These guys have done like 4 of my vehicles so I trust their work I was just wanting to make sure no one has had problems using a standard tint. I would rather do my research rather then pay 150 to get it done and realize I should have gone with the 3M and end up paying more in the long run....

I have a 2011, they told me the same thing about the reception for onstar and all that. However I do know the owner of the place I went to so I know he wouldn't jack me around. He said 98% chance it wont effect anything. I have had no issues so far. $280 does seem high.

I got mine done for $270, but that is including the windshield. I got 5% on the rear and driver and passenger windows. I got 50% on the windshield.

It would of been around 160-170. But the windshield is a really hard window to tint which is an extra 100-120$ itself.

Thanks Hockey, so to be clear you went with a normal tint and had no issues and the owner said 98% that a standard tint wont bother it but if you want to be 100% sure then to go with the higher end tint

No problem. Yep, I chose the standard tint that is used for most all vehicles. One of the guys there had a Camaro and said he never had any issues either. I've been driving with the tint for about a week and a half now and no problems for me. I'd say your good to go ahead and stick with the standard.

Also, with choosing the higher end tint there %'s run different. Ususally its 5% , 15% , 20% , 35% , and 50%. If you get the higher end 3M they have all different %'s.

I went with the Llumar tint over the 3M. Mine is guaranteed for life. I paid $220 for five windows (excludes windshield - illegal in NC except the top 6 inches of the glass).

I have experienced NO interference whatsoever - except XM (no signal) messages.

Good luck..

They say that the sputtered metal type tint will interfere with the reception, but I haven't seen anyone complain about it on any of the threads I've read yet. I still think I'd prefer to go with a ceramic type tint when I do mine though.
