I'm actually kind of ranting at this point, they got to give us some news on this thing. It's been like forever....unless I'm missing some news. My dad is considering a Grand Sport....

Settle down there Gun Powder...It's only a few more months before orders can be placed. GM still has to validate a bunch of things when it comes to the ZL-1, I.E. production line fitments, enviromental tests, Captured Test Fleet (CTF) testing, product pricing, and the list goes on and on.

Let GM get it right, that way they don't have to go back and fix a bunch of mistakes.

I wouldn't expect to have all the details until January.

That said ... does it really matter if you know that it has say 573 hp instead of 581? That its fuel economy is 15/20 instead of 14/19? That it weighs 4067 lbs and not 4145 lbs? That its estimated 1/4 mile time is 12.1 and not 12.0? Don't get me wrong, I want to know all the details too. But given that the laws of physics dictate that ZL1 is going to be superior (performance wise) to the CTS-V in every way I can think of, I am not at all worried about what the final numbers are. Except maybe price, but even then ... GM can't price it too far from the GT500 or too close to the CTS-V, So that means that it should be about $50k, and defiantly less than $60k.

If he's already considering a car, it's going to be a long wait till this comes out. At first, there might be availability problems if he hasn't placed a dealer's first order.

The trick is to keep busy. My days fly bye so fast before I know it the ZL1
will be in my driveway. I'm first on my dealers order list which helps some. I'm still trying to figure out things as far as rims, transmission, sun roof, suede etc. Before I know it I'll be on the hot seat and will be making those
final choices.
My advice is to keep busy and the time to order will be here before you know it.

In my opinion the only reason you need to know these things is if you are deciding between the ZL1 and another competitor and these performance stats will help you make your choice. I am set on the ZL1 so I don't need to know the exact performance specifications. To order the car I will need to know a few things like why the automatic ZL1 is supposedly the ticket and what comes standard because I'm undecided on those features. It would be nice to know the price of the options and the base price but that is not necessary for me. It will be for some. I'll need time to make informed decisions, I don't want to be put on the spot at the dealership.

But that would then require you to know the specs & stats on the 2013 GT500 as well, which is going to be getting at least a slight update early next year. So even if GM made an announcement tomorrow, we still wouldn't know how it performs relative to the 2013 GT500. Plus, if anyone is truly considering the ZL1 and something else, I would think that they'd want to test drive both of them (preferably back to back, if possible) before placing an order.

As for the auto vs manual ... the same thing was said about the CTS-V, which I'm sure has the same transmissions as what the ZL1 will have. So if you're interested in why the auto may be faster, I'd start there.

I'm not sure there are going to be many, if any, test drives of ZL1s initially when they hit the dealer showrooms, as the most, if not all, of the early ZL1 deliveries will be allocated to customer orders. After the initial ZL1 demand has been satisfied, ZL1 test drives may occur, but they still may be limited. I don't expect we'll see ZL1s sitting on dealers lots in the numbers that LTs and SSs do.

I agree with the OP. My budget says that if this car is $50k I will have one but if it's $55k then I might need to look elsewhere. I've made up my mind that I'm getting one as long as I can afford it so hurry the F up Chevy and let me know if I can afford one!

-- OK!

It's one Kicka## ride!

(...there....how's that???? )

As I've said many many many times - this is a very competitive business and the last thing we want is to 'tip' our hand (so to speak) to the competition......

We'll be telling you more in the near future -

Frankly I wasn't in favor of unveiling the car when we did - I felt it was way too premature - however, my opinion doesn't matter when the folks at the top of the company felt we should.......the passion behind this car is legendary both from within the company and from the enthusiast community as well.

Let me say this (again...) Al and Cheryl and Tony and the Engineering team --especially the chassis development group and powertrain group have done an amazing job. (......yes, I'm prejudiced...but I'm also one of our 'internal' biggest critics as well....)

All in all, I'd say the 5th gen has caused untold cases of "Perma-Grin" - and I think the ZL1 will cause "Ultra-Grin"

Chevrolet PLEASE throw us a bone! I almost bought a Challenger last week. Beautiful car, but I am trying to hold out for a ZL1. LOL, and these private offers with 3k on the hood of a Corvette are not helping either.

Exactly! Thats the reason I've thought all along GM didnt want to release the ZL1 stats just yet. Don't let the competition know too much too soon.
