Just a quick comparison...?

Hey guys, I'm very, very! interested in the new Camaro (V6 for me insurance ftl)

Anyway, I was curious what you guys thought of a comparison between the V6 DI Camaro and the new 2008 Evo X GSR. Vastly different cars, I know, but still, sate my curiosity!

Thanks.

The evo is a ricer car... it is going to handle well, and attract Asian girls that like world of Warcraft.

Haha totally agree! Camaro is much more badass - cheaper, too. Just curious performance-wise. Handling on the camaro (in relation to the evo) is obviously gonna be crap. Where does the camaro shine against the X?

looking really quickly on wiki it looks like the gsr is going to be about the same price of an optioned out SS. Performance wise it has the same hp and more torque then the v6 but is a higher reving engine. In conclusion if you buy a v6 and spend the extra money to make your camaro worth $34,000 it will be faster then an evo and still look nicer.

it might be better handling wise, but a lot of that comes down to the driver. as for straight line all out speed, the camaro will be hard to beat.

I'd have to look at specs a bit closer but initial idea, would be Camaro V-6 would be a tick slower than EVO X, if I remember correctly 0-60 is sub 5 sec on EVO X. All wheel drive will make it handle better in some situations and worse in others. Camaro, is gonna shine in interior space, options and refinement. EVO is a small car, looked at Lancer's when I bought my Vue , nice enough but still that economy car feel, and my tester had issues that I believed a new car shouldn't so I walked away, and Mitsu does not have a sterling record of reliability. EVO X is a race car, gonna have Recaro seats which may not be comfortable for a long ride, meant for safety over comfort. Options for an EVO probably be less then the Camaro as well, attempting to keep weight out of the car. Both of these cars rock, it is merely a difference in how they are executed by the manufacturers, ricer or not, it's a great piece of machinery, and should not be disrespected because of where its manufacturer is based.

evo also comfortably seats 4. Are you going to be driving your friends around a lot? I'm sure the Evo will compete with the v8 on the track. Evo's start at 34k also...

Good point brought up by lsuduke also. Recaro seats aren't exactly the most comfortable, as well as the suspension will be a little stiffer than the camaro so it won't be as soft to your butt/back.

If I had to choose, I'd take the EVO, but that's like picking the SS or the v6...

Evo all the way! My question is, if you have the cash for an evo x, why is insurance for an SS a problem? I'm even willing to bet the SS will be priced less than the evo therefore a lower monthly payment giving you the ability to pay a little more in ins. If I were you I would shop around for insurance and get the SS.

The EVO is like a Zero and the Camaro is like a P-38.

Why do you think that? You folks are gonna be shocked when a v6 camaro with stiff suspension is tearing up the corners. This ain't your daddys Camaro.
Big torque from just off idle to red line, IRS, well tuned suspension, this is gonna be fun!

yeah, as far as handling..."crap" isn't the best word. The evo may be a little more nimble, but the Camaro will hold it's own in the handling dept. There's only ~300lbs between the two. Think G8 handling on steroids.

As far as a comparison...V6 Camaro v EVO GSR...

-The Camaro gets MASSIVELY better fuel economy. It should deliver 27mpg compared to the Evo's 22mpg. ON top of that, the Evo takes premium fuel, and the V6 Camaro only requires regular.

-It also develops more power. 300 (+) compared to 291. And you get the throaty roar of the DI V6 compared to the evo's...well, not a throaty roar.

-You mentioned it already; but you'll need 32 grand to even get into the Mitsubishi, whereas you shouldn't need any more than 23k to find yourself in a Camaro...that's nearly 10 thousand dollars....

-Camaro has 6-speeds all around auto/manual, but in the GSR you can only get a 5-speed manual transmission.

-The Camaro looks (imo) unbelievably better. MUCH more aggressive; and more likely to turn a head as your rolling down the street.

-As far as performance; the only numbers I could find on the Evo was about a 5.4 sec 0-60. The Camaro V6 shouldn't take much longer than that; and when you're talking about .3-.4 seconds....you might as well call it the same, it's not going to feel much different speed-wise....

Even if you got the SS Camaro, and absolutely blew ALL of the evo's numbers away; you'd still be spending less than the Lancer Evo...so the Camaro wins.

The Evo X is a little less racetrack and a little more civilized than the Evo IX

The Evo IX? I wouldn't mess around with one. Stock they are pretty capable. Modded? they are pretty freakin' mean.

That being said, I would be careful about messing around with an Evo X lest I end up like one of those early 90's Mustang 5.0 guys that got their asses handed to them by a 1st gen AWD Eclipse and wondered how the hell that just happened.

But then again, I'm just not that convinced about Mitsubishi's build quality.
