It DOES? Are you talking about the 530i.

I don't know about that, the launch control and that "M computer" is pretty sharp, did anyone see the test drive on the speed channel ?

For those who did got to agree with me, Their launch computer may outclass us by a lot !

I wouldn't go so far as to compare the Camaro with the M3 in every category, but the times are close on the Nurburgring. One of my friends wants a new M3 so he and I will do battle at the track and post results sometime.

Why not, got nothing else to do

personally tell proven I think the M3 can spank the Camaro, and the two others as well

The GTO was brought to the US for only three years as planned because the GTO platform did not comply with the new safety regs. That is one of many reasons. Cost is the other. Developing several cars off of a single platform allows GM to cut costs and to use flexible manufacturing processes. An extreme example of this is the ZR1. To make the car viable they needed to build it within the platform of the C6 so several compromises had to be made.

This will be interesting. The M3 is a very nice car.. I'm sure your friend will let you drive his if you let him drive yours and both of you can decide for yourself if the Camaro feels similarly as smooth. I'm not expecting the Camaro to feel better on the road considering BMW's amazing build quality, however if it comes really close then it is a win for GM fans in the quality dept. As for speed, they both may be very similar, however what is more important in my opinion when doing a comparison to the Beemer is in the handling and ride comfort while going insanely fast

The VXR8 over here in the UK (I have no idea what you or the Australians call it - but it's on the Zeta) has suspension very similar to the last generation BMW M5 whereas the Monaro has something akin to a 70s British car... however, I think my Monaro handles pretty well given it's bulk so I won't complain!

I looked at BMW M3's last week, and found a nice gunmetal coupe i liked with a black leather interior.

79,000K

Now im not saying that the Camaro can beat the M3 in any comparison, but even to be able to say you can run with the car which is (hopefully ) 2 - 3 times as much money is a huge accomplishment for anyone.

This is what happens when BMW gets lazy, and GM gets really motivated

It's no different here - the M3 starts at £52k which is hopefully something like £15k more than the base Camaro - but they are very different cars.

Thanks for all the input guys, I think I'll be pleased with what I get then. It will be nice to get a camaro that can handle even close to an M3, They cost twice as much and are one of BMW's most talked about cars...enough said

I had no problem hanging with m3's on the track through I did have about 1500 in suspension mods at the time on my GTO.

Australia's is called the Holden Commodore, and the US version is the Pontiac G8.

I thought the G8 was a smaller varient.. but I know the Australians get the HSV GTS - there is some weird distinction over there between the Holden and the HSV (despite HSV meaning Holden Special Vehicles)..

I dunno if it'll handle better, but it should handle well. Their projected grip goal is .90. Like the Challenger. And the M3 coupe weighs about 260 pounds less than a Camaro SS manual. With the right tuning and tires, the Camaro should be a great handling car. The M3 has the advantage of their M-differential and it's steering and road feel are legendary.

According to the Nurburgring list, the M3 posts an 8:05. So that's 15 seconds off the Camaro's time. That's a huge difference.

But around your average track with average drivers, the Camaro will have a big torque advantage which will help a bit in the straights.
