Mine has idled "rough" I guess since day 1... That said.. I've driven Trucks & a van off and on for the past 13'ish years all automatics...and never had the opportunity to drive something like this.

I assumed it was "normal" for the car as I never test drove any others, and it is a 426 HP manual transmission "muscle car"..

My dad used to drive cars like this though (granted much older models) and one of the first things he said when he got in it... was that it seemed to Idle pretty rough. It didn't seem alarming rough? But just rough....

For the record, mine is a 2SS/RS v8 m6. 37k Vin# range.

Mine idled a little rough when I first got it but it was mostly due to the fact that my dealer put 87 octane in the tank instead of 93. I was so pissed that they would do this just to save a few cents. Once I finally ran that cheap gas through the system I had them reset the computer to ensure the car had relearned the correct octane level (93) which is recommended for the LS3. I ran at least 3 tanks of 93 before I did this, hope this helps.

MY car idles pretty rough when I fire her up. Once it gets warm, everything runs a lot smoother.

My driver's side door had a big ol dent in it when I bought it. They smoothed it out, but you can see the scratch where they did so at certain angles now (I'll take it back some day).

Really?

Actually there is a compromise made when designing the camshaft. If you want maximum drivability/smoothness, that's fine, but you sacrifice some power. If you want maximum power, you can get that, but you sacrifice the smoothness. At the power level GM decided upon for these cars, there is a bit of a shake at idle. This isn't a 2-liter 4 cylinder here. As stated by several above, a rough idle is normal for this engine. If there is any hesitation or problem upon acceleration then that is NOT normal.

After changing the cam in my '99 SS, it shook the house at idle. Literally, you could hear glasses in the kitchen cabinets clanging together. There was nothing wrong with it...just decided on a cam that delivered more power (and a nice lope to go along with it).

I've heard a few LS3s that idle just like mine......not buttery smooth...it almost makes you think it's alive.

I havent seen many that dont idle a little on the rough side. My friend had his in Atlanta at G13 last year and its the first thing I noticed and said something about it. Well I picked mine up in January of this year and guess what? Mine does the same exact thing lol. As said above its the cam grind and I have no issues with it idling like that. As long as it doesnt miss when driving, which it doesnt, then I am fine with it. I am also coming out of a 95 Z28 that had a solid roller so it makes me happy feeling a little motor while Im sitting at a stop light.

I have the L99 engine and it is a little rough when cold. However, very smooth after warm up.

Well, as many have already said, I have a bit of a rough idle, but I know it is the V8 talking to me. It says "Quit sitting at this light, let's get up and GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" So we do...

But really, I agree that it is the whole V8, 426 HP, just all that power, thing... But if it is actually "missing" or "hesitating", then by all means the dealer should make necessary adjustments. Otherwise, just let 'em take a look so you know for sure. Especially since you have to take it in for the paint issue anyway. Good luck!!!

I thought the same thing when I got mine. I've had several camaro's, but none with this amount of power. So i brought her into the dealer, i think my mileage was around 500. They looked at it and said it was normal. I have almost 10k on her now.
