I do tile work for a living and I have had to fix so many BS broken tiles for contractors cause joe blow dropped a hammer or oops a ladder fell over, and had to do it for free with a smile just so the next 6k job comes up i'm the first one he thinks of. Bout time GM starts thinking with this same mentality or ppl are gonna start buying hondas. |

I too have had the same problems on the read panels of my 2SS (alot of chipping). I'm going to the dealership today and talk with them to see what they're willing to do. I'll post info on the progress.
They seem to be a really good dealership so I'm very hopeful I'll come to a good agreement.

I think this issue is a lot bigger than we imagine and it not should be taken lightly. Everyone on this site that that is dealing with this issue should immediately contact the GM customer service department and have their voice heard. These cars are an American icon and should not be considered trash. Weather its a GM or dealer problem, someone needs to take responsibility. Remember that the dealers are making a profit from the products they sell us.

By the way, these paint chips are occurring all over the vehicle not just on the front end. So adding a bra does not solve the problem, it's only a bandage to a much larger picture.
Good Luck to all. |

I am currently collecting paint thickness (measured in Mils) on these cars that have excessive chipping. My first few tests had some interesting results. I do not have enough data to make a determination so I need all of you who are getting your cars looked at by a GM rep to get it mil tested and send me that info via a PM. Should I post a new thread for this request?

So I dropped by my service department to talk to them about this issue. And although they were kinda nice, they really gave me no asnwer either way other than to say it seemed like GM had no policy on this and that I should wait months to see what GM might do. They did refer me to the body shop to talk with them about the problem (passing the buck ultimately). I haven't had time to stop at the body shop but I will in a few days. I REALLY, REALLY believe my dealership is likely to want to do nothing about the issue -- I hope I'm wrong because thus far, I've had great respect for my local dealership.

@htp, your shop doesn't have a clear bra for the side gills? This isn't the governments fault, it GM's.
Before GM will work with you, you have to go to the dealer first and be rejected, which you will. Then you can file your complaint with the company and wait. The reason that I say it's GM's fault is because this can be fixed with proper engineering, change the thickness of the paint, change the thickness of the clear coat, you can't tell me there is no solution because your company provides one. Many people who have washed their cars in detail, know that right behind the front tires on the bottom of the body is a clear bra piece. Where did it come from? My dealer didn't put it there. It was a solution to a problem. They spend shit loads of cash making sure my ass feels good in the seat, they can spend the money to fix this problem. They would just add a hundred bucks on the final price anyway. I would be happy to have paid that, than having do deal with all of this bullshit now!! |

It is a sexy design. That type of design comes with problems just like a trophy wife. If you want a trouble free design buy a Honda Element or one of those other cars that looks like the box it was shipped in.

Anyway say what you want but this complaint is in every car forum... and lots of models besides the Camaro have this issue. The only common denominator is that every auto manufacturer is controled by the government. You alreasdy have your opinion formed so I am not going ot waste anymore time trying to change your mind. Like the guy said, either find a way to protect it or look for another car. Last edited by htp autoworks; 05-17-2010 at 04:47 PM. |

Alright, help me out here Htp? How much installed is the clear bra?
My previous vehicle had a clear bra which became faded and worn after 10000 miles making a noticable difference on the front end. They are warrented and I get a new one free of charge. However the labor to remove the old one and re-install a new one is not! So how much do you charge to remove an old damaged bra and re-install a new one? Now multiply by ten and add them together. How much is that? Should I have to pay that because and auto manufacturer won't go thicker on paint? @ Bitchn, let me know how you feel after your bra fades and you have to get a new one. I am talking from experience and not making this shit up!! @ htp, I am not trying to mess with your business, I just think people need to know what they are getting themselves into with the clear bra!! |

I forgot to post last time, my production date was 9/14/2010. I took delivery on 9/26/10.. And I now have really stirred the GM customer care dept up. They have sent a rep to Oregon to investigate thru the Suburban, Damerow chevy group. They are updating me (2) times a week. I am still waiting for them to request my car for inspection and to get a MIL check on the paint.
