Gutted or deleted cats with the stock mufflers sounds good in my ls3...

Its probly worth some power too, which i dont think mufflers deletes are.

I bought the magnaflow axle back system and it sounds amazing over stock. It's actually pretty loud, louder then you would expect and I got it for like $400.00 shipped. Took less then 30 mins to install for me. But I did it at my work so I had a lift and the tools to do it easily.

On a budget Muffler Delete or this Magnaflow will give you the best sound IMO.

For a bit more you can Delete your Resonators behind the Cats and add a x-pipe too...

any muffler delete is the best to do on a low budget, all brands that do the muffler delete sound very similar

SLP:http://www.lmperformance.com/53570/119.html

Magnaflow: http://www.lmperformance.com/53593/119.html

Flowmaster (not muffler delete but are cheap and sound very nice): http://www.lmperformance.com/56340/119.html

Of course feel free to get em' anywhere else I like http://www.lmperformance.com/ because most exhaust systems have free shipping.

For the money the muffler delete and if you can afford it....the rear cat delete.

Go through my thread. I have pics and video.
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64964

No loss of power....you'll actually see a little gain, especially from the rear cat delete.

I'm selling mine pretty cheap. I just put on a set of headers and the 3" Magnaflow so this system is for sale. I have someone that says they want it but if the deal falls through I'll PM you.

I would like to eventually do a whole exhaust system on my car but for now I just want some sound. So what would you recommend?
Get youself the Pypes cat back. Other vendor's axle back systems cost almost as much as the Pypes full cat back system. The Pypes also includes a very well made x-pipe. The sound is phenomenal. At my first auto-cross event, even the Porsche guys were impressed with the sound. I eventually became to be known as the yellow Camaro guy with the Pypes exhaust, no kidding. The pro-shop that did my install also said that the Pypes setup was one of the cleanest and easiest aftermarket installs they've ever done. I think any of the axle backs or cutting out your stock exhaust is just money wasted. Plus, you can keep your stock exhaust incase you need to sell the car or even sell the complete OE setup which will come off in one piece.

Muffler delete on a LS3 is a bit harsh for me. Put Dynomax race bullets or Summit glass packs in place of the factory mufflers and get a more mellow, rich, deep, throaty sound.

Depends, on the shop. If you are buying the muffler deletes from SLP or someone, then you don't need a shop at all. All you need is a sawzall.

If you are wanting a muffler shop to make the pipes, then that is going to take a shop that carries T-304 or 409 and knows how to bend pipe.

I called a couple shops and they said they could just cut off the mufflers and weld in a pipe so I can keep my old tips for $50 a side. That is sounding reeeeaaaal tempting. Is there a down side to this?

That sounds reasonable. Try it. If you don't like it later, you can always go to a cat-back set up. It's probably like money, though. Once you try a little, you'll want more.

Oh, I found this little chart interesting:

Ya, sounds real good. It won't look very good if they just weld a angled pipe versus putting the proper bends in it.....but it will work. as long as the angle isn't real crazy, it won't cause any restrictions.

Also, they will need to put a hanger on it to hold the tail pipe up and keep it from shaking around. You can see how simple looking it is in some of the pictures posted up here. Just let the shop know so they aren't caught off guard.
