Zora Arkus Duntov

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In my earlier life I had the pleasure and honor to meet MR Duntov and Mrs Duntov on three occasions. They attended as our guests at number of Corvette Conventions. I met him just after his retirement and again a few years later. Each occasion was memorable and very enjoyable to be around and speak with some one who had so much knowledge about the car I was driving. He was with out question the GOD FATHER of the CORVETTE.

Skip forward 20 years and now I attend the 25th anniversary of the Pontiac Oakland Club, because with the kids gone, my new passion is GTO. Again I have the privilege to meet many personalities associated with the BRAND I love .

John Delorean, Jim Wangers and Smokey Yunick all in one room at one time along with the then current chief engineer and marketing manager for PONTIAC. WOW !!! Smokey Yunick..... you young ums will have to google that. !!!
The Holy Trinity ...The Father, The Son and the Holy Ghost.

All this of course before the Internet. We got to shake the hand of these men who made the dreams come true for so many.

Now TODAY we with the CAMARO have a man AGAIN who has put his entire life and career into the BRAND that we want parked in our garage .

The God Father of the CAMARO deserves the same respect we pay those who paved the way for others to bring us this new world class car.

The Internet allows each of us to actually enter this mans home and go to work with him. Some of the things and comments posted here in the last 48 hours would never have been said to any of the forefathers. We never would had called MR Duntov " Hey Zora " .

There are people who work hard doing the best they can in hard times to put this car in your drive way. Stop, think and cool off before you let your steam off. Scott and the entire team along with the line workers deserve some respect.

We would have given our hind teeth to be able to interact with the creators of those other Marques while the BRAND evolved. Please don't waste the opportunity.

Sorry Scott! The little devil on my shoulder won out over my better judgement...so I had to. I will accept my punishment of being forced to rent a Mustang V6 for a week if you promise to call off the Suburbans...

So, CGM at NAIAS to squelch this rumor?

What if I order a V6 and I'm the only person to order a V6 from my dealer? Does that mean the V6 they'll be sent will be mine, or do they not have any say what specs this V6 will have they'll get?

I'm concerned they'll receive a random spec'd V6, and my V6 might not come in for months. I haven't figured out yet for sure if the V6 they HAVE to get can be custom ordered by them so they can use it to fulfill an order.

No. The V6 they get that doesn't count against their allocation is spec'd out by GM, not the dealer. As far as your V6, it will come in like in normally would with respect to your spot in line in your dealer's allocation. For all intents and purposes, ignore the fact that the non-allocation V6 even exists.

You can't really ignore it since they will take the first 3,500 plus build away from pre ordered cars...or about 30 - 45 days of production depending on how fast the factory can ramp up to full speed.

So it does matter as not only will the the 30 day delay affect deliveries, so will the production of V6 cars up front for all dealers.

You can ignore it though based on total allocations a dealer has as it's been stated many times it doesn't count against them.

Now...if they produce pre ordered cars at the same time as these V6s...then we can ignore to a degree but 3,500 plus cars will have an affect on total production and programmed deliveries.

My thoughts at least...

I think the first cars are being made at 1 per dealer, and AFAIK the earlier official count for Chevy Dealers was like 2,500. I may be wrong though, I can't find the post where it said that. That should make things a little easier for us....

Does this not HAVE TO happen - at least in respect to the V8? Its not like they're going to build 100% V6's (the facility can't) for the showrooms first and then move onto the pre-orders. So, since the factory has to produce a certain percentage of V8's along with the V6's, and they are not going to supply showrooms with any V8's, the V8's produced should therefore be pre-order V8's.

Whether or not pre-order V6's are also made in conjunction with the showroom V6's is another matter. But with everything FbodFather and Scotty have told us, I don't see how the whole showroom V6 scenario doesn't benefit V8 pre-orders (assuming there isn't a very unfavorable V6/V8 split like 97%/3%).

Agreed but from what I got out of Fbodfather's posts, my opinion only, is that I may have erred in saying initial production will ONLY be the non-allocation V6's. While it will probably be heavily slanted towards those for Camaro exposure across the country, it appears our pre-orders will start to be filled at the same time. IMO, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see the first pre-order vehicle hit whomever's lot by the middle of April at the latest. Just my opinion.

The facility most certainly could provided enough parts are on hand. Oshawa is a flex line. I do agree it won't.
