Add me to the list. If I make a quick full throttle shift from 1st to 2nd it will grind almost no matter how far I put the clutch in.

I wonder if theyre banking on most of us trading them in due to the problems and then they can just tell the next owner its not covered and its because there was abuse or some lame-o excuse??

Im in FL hiding from the snow this week. It might be the end of next week before i get on a pc where i can modify the list. Thanks for posting your issue!!

Found a temporary solution but its only good for extremely hard drag racing. hard in that it puts a lot of stress on the clutch and drive line.

If you power shift (basically during the 1st to 2nd shift you keep the gas pedal to the floor) it wont grind. It is also much faster and more powerful of a shift but its hard on the clutch. Its also only good to avoid the grind if you are going all out in a drag race.

That's weird ...

If the synchros are the problem with the AY6, then power shifting should magnify the crunching issue by 1000%.

When I was racing 5.0's back in the day, I power shifted the gears every single time I raced. It became second nature to me. But in the long run, it absolutely murdered the synchros (I learned how to install trannies to save $$ because of all the Borg Warner T-5's I went through ).

I haven't tried it on my AY6 (and the trannie being what it is) I don't know if I ever will.

Funny you say that cause I've already traded mine in. Couldn't stand the notchy shifts anymore. Took a hit, but after driving auto..it's well worth it.

I think the problem with the AY6 might be the type of gears used in this transmission, racing and performance transmissions differ from street transmissions by running straight-cut gears. Straight-cut gears are stronger than diagonally cut gears found in most street transmissions because engine torque is spread out over a larger contact (straight-cut) area between the teeth. Diagonally cut gears are used in street trans because they generate less heat and gear whine. This may be the problem combined with questionable synchros that people are seeing with hi RPM torque 1-2 gear grinding.

This is only a guess on my part but I`m very suspicious of the type of gears and synchros used in this transmission.

Aisin says that they switch to a new gear set with narrower gears in order to cut down on noise, improve shift quality and to cut weight. I don't think this new gear set can handle it. Ironically its labeled as their high performance and high torque capacity transmission.

I just finished sending the following E-mail to Jerico Racing Transmissions Charlotte, North Carolina, hopefully they may respond with an answer and a solution to this problem;

Good day, I`m a forum member of Camaro5.com we have been having an on going debate and problem with the aisin AY6 transmissions for the V6, 2010-11 Camaros. The problem that has the most complaints is the shift grind from 1st to 2nd at high RPM`s when speed/power shifts. My question is there a problem with the design of these gears or syncros for this transmission and if so do you offer a gear replacement for this transmission? I`m including the forum thread and if you could would you be able to offer our members some insight as to what is causing this problem? Thank you, mickss

Are these new gear sets the same as are currently in the AY6 or is this something entirely new from the current set?

Ironic isn`t the first word that comes to my mind, if their calling it a "high performance and high torque" then false advertising is what I would call it if it`s those same gears that`s in it now.
