Sounds like they were both terrible drivers though considering he said he's never seen faster than a 13.0 and both of those cars, camaro and mustang, should easily be running low 12's.
That isn't the Mustang thats been 13.0, it was another one that we've only seen that one time. The Camaro is running normal times with the mods given. This is the reality of real times for these cars.... ppl believe everything magazines say... The camaro is not gonna be in the 11's without internal engine mods, SC, turbo or nitrous. IMO the mustang isn't either without the same.

The difference is.... you're comparing a heavily modded factory car to a standard model with with mix of performance parts to give it a performance edge.

There are minimal parts to be added to the Camaro, and a whole lot less money involved and run right beside the GT500....

Plus Chevrolet isn't gonna put the Corvette second to the Camaro in this catagory..... Now, the Z28 will prolly be more competetive than a C6, but its not gonna be at Gran Sport, Carbon, or Z06 territory.

If someone strapped a Supercharger on their Camaro it would still be thousands cheaper and still as fast (or close to) as the GT500

Here are the hard facts from the Motor Trend review(s)

GT500 Super Snake and HPE650
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...son/specs.html

GT500 and HPE550
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...rt8/specs.html

Feel free to look at the weight on both of those camaros compared to the GT500... the Camaro is only lighter in the HPE650 vs Super Snake by 20 lbs
What nobody is talking about, is the Challenger isn't Supercharged, its not that far back in 1/4 times, being out powered and heaviest of the 3.

And one was a bone stock auto, that base lined at a 12.7?, with two guys starting to tune it with a hand held tuner, next run was a 12.5?, didn't see what they got the times down to. On that same day, an intake, tune, exhaust auto Camaro SS ran a best of 13.2?, with most of the runs being in the mid/high 13's, and a tune and intake Camaro SS that couldn't get below 13.5. Disgusting for the SS clowns, because my slowest run of the day was a 13.18, with a best being the 13.08 in my sig.
That's just sad that the Camaro guys you saw were running that slow. My first time out to the track I ran 13.1 @110.6. I am running with a CAI and catback, stock tune. I have the BC coilovers but I had the shop set the alignment up for running Autocross. That should make it a bit harder to hook up. My best trap speed was 111.5.

But-------- From motor trend;
Equipped with the available 3.73 rear axle ($395), our 5.0 needed just 4.3 seconds to hit 60 and only 12.8 at 110.8 mph to knockout the quarter mile. To answer the million-dollar question: Yes, it's quicker than both the 426-horsepower Chevy Camaro SS (4.5, 12.9 at 110.7)and the 425-horse Dodge Challenger SRT-8 (4.6, 13.1 at 108.4).

yes it is 1/10th but that makes it a drivers race until you get to the most experienced drivers and that is with the gear package on the Mustank

Yea, the times are little off, but in reality... these cars aren't as fast as magazines sell em to be... including the Camaro. How many 12.8 or so bone stock Camaros have we seen???? obviously there has been some, but the conditions had to be perfect, along with everything else... which isn't that common. Plus, if you factor the weight difference in.. 200 lbs or so, thats atleast 2 tenths.... 100 lbs = 1/10

The best my car has run has been 12.8 with LT's, no cats, LMR CAI, SLP axle back, stock tune.

Now, i have a cam, dyno tune, and drag radials... i haven't been able to run it since all this, but i'm hoping for high 11's or very low 12's.

Yes it is supercharged. It's just not on the built block it's usually running, it's on a stock 6.1. All the times are extremely slow though. A low 12 with a 120 trap is disgusting.

I'm not sure what you're saying here. Are you saying a modified SS should be compared to a stock gt500? That's pointless. It's almost always cheaper to modify a cheaper, slower vehicle to be faster than the next trim level up. That's exactly what the gt500 is, not a modified gt, but the third trim level. I could buy a v6 camaro, use the 8k I saved not buying an ls3, and whoop up on stock ls3's all day. That doesn't mean the v6 is a competitor. There are just no direct competitors with the gt500, period. That's not dogging on GM or Dodge, it's just a fact, they haven't introduced a competitor yet. When they do, I'm sure they will be just as good.

GT500 is not heavily modded, it is indeed 'heavy duty' from the factory. Read up. Stock vs. Stock is not close. Mod for Mod it embarrasses the SS. Wait for the Z28 for these types of comparos.

The guy in this video (Tnspd) Camaro5 member, he can back this up completely.

The Camaro mods:

Mustang Mods (according to the driver):
K&N CAI

i want that race......

On the 2011 Rustang graph, is the top-right lettering in red supposed to say "w/tune"?

Either way, I need to show this to my boss

p.s. if your question is true...

Uh... need to look at that again.... They're not SC'd

The point is.... Ford has never had a car without bolting a SC on it that would hang with a Camaro in modern time.... thats going back to the beginning of the 4th Gen Camaro. The only thing that they had goin for em was the SVT Cobra in 03 / 04...which was SC'd,... which i would say is the baddest Mustang they've had in modern time..IMO. SO with that said.... the GT500 has been the only mustang to compare the Camaro with until they finally figured how to build a motor without a SC attached to it. Now.... the GT500 is in its own class, but if someone took the Camaro, add the same componets as the GT500... Like SHELBY adds to it... and you will see that the GT500 has direct competition. Search the forums and internet for comparos prior to the 2011 GT, and all they wanted to do is compare the Camaro SS to the GT500.... because obviously, the 2010 GT had nothing for it... That doesn't say the Camaro was any comp for the GT500, but it was quick to be used in comparos. I know Chevy doesn't have anything rolling straight outta Oshawa to campare evenly with the GT500, but its gonna be awesome to see what happens to these cars over the next few years.... i mean its a race to have the baddest machine, so i'm sure the comparos have not even really began

I haven't compared the 2... but in fact, the GT500 has been compared to the SS in the past even tho it wasn't fair. I'm not knocking the GT500 or the new GT, I actually like the way the new GT500 looks... but there is the ability to mod the SS very similar to the GT500 and have a resonably fair comparo. Without SHELBY all over that car... its just a GT Mustang, so yes, its modded from the factory by Shelby, which would be the same if the Camaro came from the factory with Hennessey, Lingenfelter, or something like that already on the car. That has already been tested by Motortrend which is linked above by another member where they compared a Hennessey Camaro vs Shelby Super Snake Mustang vs a Challenger that wasn't completely ready, and i think the Super Snake only won the best interior..... and had a significant WHP advantage over both Camaro and Challenger.

I can't comment on the super snake, because I don't know weather that is a true shelby, or still an SVT vehicle.

So after some digging it looks like the Super Snake is an actual Shelby as well as the GT350. These cars are bought as base models by Shelby (or you can turn your 2011 Mustang into Shelby and they will turn it into one of those models. The ones bought at the dealer are like you suspected SVT packages.

This is so frustrating when brands whore out themselves like this. They begin to water down the reputation associated with their names by trying to make a quick buck by slapping their label on a product not representing their name.

I understand that any Hennesey car is performance tuned from head to toe. I was just pointing out one of my favorite features of most L series engines. They are VERY powerful being naturally asperated and throwing a blower on those puppies make them one mean mother.
