And the GT500 was built to strickly drag race? I don't even think Ford had drag racing on the mind when it built the car. A car sold at a dealer intended for drag racing won't even have an air conditioner.

Perfect example of a car like that would be the L88 Corvette

Actually he is right. The 5.0s are getting better numbers stock vs stock in the real world and in all of the magazine tests I've seen.

The guy who said driver skill doesn't matter is the one who doesn't know what he is talking about. The 5.0 may be slightly faster, but just a small difference in driver skill will make up the difference. Of course if the guy driving the 5.0 is the better driver....

So when the Z28 drops with IRS, Supercharger, more aggressive suspension and handling, better braking.... that means the axles will break, the motor will blow up, and it'll ride like a dump truck????

I have no desire to buy a Z28, not saying i wouldn't have one, cause i would. I think there will be alot of crow to be eaten when all the above statements about it not being a car designed to race puts an absolute ass whoopin on anything Ford has to roll out the factory.... just remember what you said, cause all those same parts and pieces are coming!!

Maybe this will give you a slight preview:

If it doesn't, then someone's head at GM needs to roll. I mean, the 2011 GT500 is a known quantity, as it has already been in production for almost a year now. If GM's goal is to build a Camaro that beats the GT500 in every aspect of performance, then I have absolutely no doubt they can make that happen.

The same is true for Ford, however. If they, as a company, ever decided to produce a direct competitor to the Corvette as a regular production car, they have the technical ability to do it. Could they do it as cheaply? Probably not, given that they would have to invest a ton of money into tooling a plant to produce nothing but one specific vehicle. (i.e. Bowling Green for GM) Hell, Nissan built a Corvette beater, why not another manufacturer?

Of course, taking aim at the 2011 GT500 with a 2012 Z28 does not mean that Ford is going to simply sit around and leave the 2012 GT500 the same as the previous model year either. Especially when they know what is coming from GM next year. Of course, they might, as the GT500 is nearing the end of it's production run for Ford while the Z28 is not even started yet. Time will tell.

The best news fo us is that the Z28 -- if they build one -- will be a Ford beater or they wouldn't build it. Then Ford will have to reply. Then Chevy will have to reply.

So my question is to anyone that has driven both is the 5.0 all that he is making it out to be.
The 5.0 is badass and will easily match an SS, stock for stock. Out drive it? Skeptical...

Man...you could have looked around for 5 minutes on this site and found enough information to write a book on the subject.

Short answer...yes it is faster than an SS stock for stock or mod for mod in MOST situations. They are close but the 5.0 is faster.

?

Their were a few that had the camaro faster. In fact their is a link to one in this very thread.

Who ever says driver skill doesnt matter is a douche. A new camaro could beat a new viper if the driver in the viper is trash. ( I have seen vids of zo6s and vipers in the high 13's lol)

The 5.0s appear to be gaining more from mods than the Camaros do. Some 5.0s have broken into the 11s with just a set of drag radials and a tune. I haven't heard of a Camaro doing that.
