+1 But I think the Z will still be quicker especially if its an auto. Remember the z/28 has the better TVS supercharger vs the Shelby's old school roots. Once that happens SVT will most likely install the FRPP 650hp 2.3L TVS on all new model's.

+1 I never intended my drag set up to be used on street every day but Ive had them on since October for these same reasons + why spend hard earned money on hp mods that just go up in tire smoke.

Pretty sure Ford will dump the 5.4 in favor of a S/C 5.0. This will reduce weight and produce more power which will result in the best GT500 to date.

The 5.4 days are numbered....

I sure hope so, I'd love to have Ti-VCT vs 29 cube's but I'm not so sure it will happen that quick due to the millions spent on their new 2011 GT500 engine.

GT500's days are numbered, not just the 5.4

Not sure I would call it millions....

They had already produced an aluminum 5.4 block for the Ford GT. More like they recast the block.

Ford has their gun loaded ready to pull the trigger on the demise of the 5.4. It is old tech and needs to be replaced especially with the competition it will receive.

GT500 days may be numbered but I will venture to guess a "Cobra" variant of some type will replace it and will use the Coyote in a forced induction form. I personally would love to see a turbo but more than likely a S/C similar to the Roush TVS will be the head unit.

If they make a turbo variant, I will get rid of my 2011 GT and put myself on the list. Otherwise I will stick with the GT and work on those 10 sec. N/A runs.

Ford should just put the roush 777 in a boss 302 and call it the boss 429. Then maybe GM would stick the ls9 in the camaro. That would end the pony car wars because they would all be wrapped around trees LOL.

As far as the 5.4 being ditched. . . I think it's closer than many realize. The boss engine with some lower comp pistons and a blower or mild turbo setup would be monstrous and more cost effective. I think the boss is a bit of a peak into the future of the gt500.

I thought it would have been faster than 11.95. The 5.0 has gone 12.3.....
By evan smith in the middle of summer in florida. I expected more until I found that out as well. Mr. Smith is legendary for pulling crazy times and if I'm not mistaken, was the first person to pull a 12.8 in a stock ls1, but those runs were at tracks like atco. In 90* heat and humidity in florida, an 11.9 is very quick. That'd be at the very least an 11.7 or so in better conditions. Still, the gt500 needs some wider rubber.

I recall the day they started using Nikasil to line the cylinder bores of 2-stroke motors in dirt bikes. That was around 1988.

I have 1988 CR250 sitting in my garage wanting to be put back together that was one of the first motors in that era to use a plated cylinder.

I pray for the day motor city decides to do what they started doing in the 60's, putting rediculously powerful engines in small, cheap cars.

No...the runs were in Englishtown New Jersey with good conditions in May. Read the article.

They mention in the article that it was cool.
Also...."We encountered mild weather and a good track"

It was not in the heat of the summer etc. The conditions were fine. They had the track to themselves, they had a professional driver behind the wheel.what more could ANYONE ask for?

When they ran the car earlier in sonoma california at Infeneon they only mustered a 12.6 @ 115.

They also iced the shit out of the intake for over an hour before the 11.9 run (another cheap little trick they always use in the ford mags that gets them some tenths)

They pulled out every trick in the book in good conditions to run that 11.9.(in typical MM&FF fashion) NOT GOING TO HAPPEN most of the time.

I use a 28" (325/50/15) and it obviously accelerated quicker when I had my 26" DR's but I was over powering them on my launch. Since I enjoyed the everyday traction I wanted a tire that would hook up my future mods and look good for DD use. I still have the 275/50/15 Hoosier DR's if I ever feel like crossing the line at redline in 4th gear which is 134 mph vs 144 mph with my current set up.
