After reading through all of the above posts, it's very clear to me that anyone planning to purchase the new ZL1 will in fact be paying more than $50K for this car, which is sad. By the time you add tax, title, reg, dealer mark up, and options, you will be well over $50K for a "Camaro" ZL1.
Once a buyer crests the $50K mark for a "car", attrition of buyers takes a huge hit. If you can drop $50K on a "car" and think nothing of it, you most certainly can afford something more expensive. I know there are plenty of people on this forum that believe in their hearts that the ZL1 is worth $55K, and a "deal" at that price. I'm truly happy for you and I'm sure you will be very proud of this car when purchased. For me personally, I've spent a lot of money over the years on new cars and all but 1 of them were GM. Buying so many new cars over the years has taught me a valuable lesson. To spark my personal interest, the ZL1's base price would need to be $43K for me to even consider a purchase. Sorry, this is just my personal take on the topic. The 2SS was what, $32K - $34, I don't remember. I believe most of the items on this car have been in place on other vehicles long enough to keep the price down. It also appears not much has changed regarding the body to justify such a large jump in price over the 2SS. If I were to spend over $50K on a "car", it would be a luxury vehicle or sport car similar to the Vette. Or buy a second home..lol. I truly am happy for everyone that plans to purchase the new ZL1, GM hit another home run with this car. I just hope the pricing doesn't scare too many buyers away, because all this talk about $50K has done it for me..lol! I'll just keep my 2SS and enjoy it! M |

I certainly don't want to dampen your zeal for what you see - but I also don't want someone out there thinking: 43K!!!!![/QUOTE]
Unless they're just looking to unload all the ss built, you would think that they would start the base lower than the GT500 to sway those buyers into a ZL1. Now as far as mark-ups are concerned, they'll help to reduce GM sales#s... |

That's how it seems to me....I don't know how anyone can expect this car to be so significantly higher performance than the SS but then expect it to come in at the low 40s in price...Chevrolet does need to make money on these you know.

With pricing not expected to be announced until Q4, this debate is gonna rage on for quite some time, lol.

And thanks, Fbod!!!!! ![]() I'd caution everyone here not to psych themselves out one way or the other and understand one very simple thing: The ZL1 is going to compete against the GT500, that much has been made officially known...."compete" also includes MSRP. Will it be cheaper? More expensive? By how much? Not a clue -- but thinking it'll be $43k, or $63k are both "WAY out in left-field" guestimates... EDIT: Oh, and by the way -- DON'T PAY DEALER MARKUPS!!!!! |

Then they should make them affordable. I'm getting a little tired of the anti-affordability crowd in the Z forum...

Affordability is relative. Many people would consider the base Camaro "unaffordable". Nobody "deserves" a ZL1 at a price they feel is appropriate. GM sets the price, the buyer determines whether or not they can/will buy the car.

i just need to ask why would anyone not want the zl1 to be affordable????????? especially for those of those that CAN afford it, don't we want to make sure that our dollars are spent in the best way possible, for whatever we are purchasing? I am not expecting the zl1 to be 40k, but as i steated more than 50k breaks it. especially after all the money that we just spent bailing out gm and the fact that some of the ceo's 2010bonuses are nearly 50% of some of their employees salaries???? dont we as loyal customers and INVESTORS deserve the best product ast the best price????? if you are not thinking through how you spend every dime especially in today's new economy you are wither very rich or well lets just say best of luck over the next 20+ years. aslo the term affordable is the same for everyone, again unless you are very rich, 50k is a heck of alot of money to invest into a car, which immediately depreciates 17% at a minimimum once you drive it off a lot. I am suprised that as crowd of enthusiats and supporters we are all not in the same boat and of the same voice telling gm what we expect and what we are willing to pay. i thought we were all on the same team.
and the btw as you say chevy/ gm needs to make money you know did anyone not notice 2010 was one of their best years in a while and do you not think seeling more cars would not generate more volume or do you want to lock out potential buyers, ie potential profit with a price point that turns off the customers????? simple rules of business, especially in todays new economy. but enuff with the specualtion i guess we will see what the price is and if it works. |
