the new 5.0 is a powerful engine and i honestly hate it when people compare to it to either a L99 or a LS3, they are different V8's. DOCH engines will make more upper power and they do it with less cubes, just the way it is.

My buddy has a brand new gt. His biggest complaint is the mpg. Which I was really surprised about. Hes averaging 13 at the moment and thats taking it easy around town. He hasnt really gotten on it yet he said. He thought the gauge must be wrong so he did the math manually, and got the same results. He said he also overlooked the gas tank size. Its smaller then the previous models. I believe 14 gallon, so that plus the low mpg hes feeling up his tank all the time. Everything else he seems pretty positive about. Ive road in it a couple of times and its a nice car.

Not bad 364/344 for numbers. So I guess there is only a bump in hp for the new Boss and no change in tq compared to the standard 5.0. I hope if and when Chevy decides to produce the Z-28 they don't forget the torque as Ford did as I am sure the Z will have a larger curb weight

2586 post later and the mustang still has a butt ugly back end. You would think that ford would pick up a magazine or read a forum to see just how bad this one thing is hurting their sales.

I am averaging 18.7 mpg. Probably 70/30 highway/city.
Almost 24mpg on long highway trips. Gained almost 1 mpg after the mods I have and the tune. |

Just listing his complaints, take it for what its worth. Im as suprised as he was that a smaller engine, with a 6 speed, and less weight would get worse mpg then my blown camaro. We both drive a similar mix of town/highway and thats what he is averaging. In comparision im averaging 22 at the moment and I drive aggressive. Not that he is picky over mpg, we both have always had gas guzzlers, just that the smaller tank + bad mpg seems like a dropped ball by ford. Atleast keep the larger tank in there so your not feeling up every few days. Maybe thats how they reduced weight

My '11 GT has averaged around 16.6-17.3 mpg in mostly city driving, though I've been able to eke out a bit over 20 a couple of times if I drive it like a typical Florida retiree (with regards to acceleration - it'll be a while before I'm driving 10-20 below the limit); On the highways, I average around 23-24mpg @ ~80mph on I-95.
The only time I was getting low, and sometimes awful mileage was during my first thousand or so miles while I was breaking it in (and I was rather thorough in that regard, and not all that gentle), and at times I was averaging around 11-12mpg. After that thousand miles, my fuel economy stabilized to the averages I'm getting now. Oh, and the 2011 has the same 16-gallon tank as the '05-'10.

Here's my dyno sheet when I put my '11 GT up on a Dynojet back in August; think I had around 1200 miles on the odo at the time.

Still, looks are in the end, subjective. If anything, if there's one thing the current Camaro and Mustang has in common (in my opinion) with regards to styling, is how they screwed up the back ends of their respective cars. Otherwise, overall, I wouldn't kick either out of bed in terms of their looks.
