Weatherstrip under rear window
Hello. I have 2010 Black 2LT Camaro with the RS package. Not too long after I picked up my car, the more than half of the weatherstrip under the rear window just sort of, fell out. I took it to a nearby GM dealership (not the same one I purchased it from) to have them fix it and they simply used some sort of an adhesive to put it back in place. It was fine until I washed the car a few days later. Well, I went ahead and bought some 3M weatherstrip adhesive and tried again with the same result. I'm hesitant to bring the car back to the dealership because I don't feel comfortable with anyone around my car. I've polished all the swirls and defects out of the paint and I want to keep it that way. I want to try to fix this weatherstrip issue on my own and I'm going to give it one more shot. I'll probably by some adhesive remover so that I can start clean and use the 3M adhesive that I already have and hopefully I'll have better luck this time. Do any of you have any recommendations that I may try that would help me to finally resolve this issue? I don't know much about cars, I haven't really become a "car guy" until last year when I got the Camaro, so any advice, no matter how seemingly simple, would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I used adhesion promoter on the vinyl. More info in this thread.

Okay, this may be a dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyhow. In that thread you said to be careful because you only get one shot, what exactly do you mean?

Try to get it right the first time because it's hard to reposition the adhesive once it's on the glass.
If you can't remove the factory adhesive under the glass, just lay down the new 3M tape beside the old tape and trim off any excess before installing the vinyl seal. If you have already piled on additional adhesive then you may have to remove it first. |
