As the owner of a cammed & tuned SS, I have to agree with severe driver problem.

The guy said his son's 5.0 was LOUD,....well that tells us something,...he didn't just have an exhaust and cai, he must have also had HEADERS put on the thing because stock, the SS or 5.0 aren't very loud when it comes to exhuast. Even with a nice magnaflow system the car won't be "LOUD" as if you can hear it coming down the street like a freight-train. That 5.0 he raced had to have had a full header/exhaust system, cai, and a tune to even mildly keep up with a full bolton+cammed SS.

I can swear to that! I've ran 5.0 on a runway with just cai, exhaust, and tune, they do put out some nice power gains and it's weight is an even more favorable trait, but STILL I've passed these guys by once we hit 130+mph. A 5.0 with headers, exhaust, cai, and a tune would stand a greater chance against a cammed SS. So maybe the son had that and you didn't know, that would explain why his 5.0 is LOUD. Headers REALLY open these cars up.

Does the cammed guy only have a cam and tune??

People need to learn that you can't just throw one little thing on.... cams need headers and cai to work good and gearing and so on...... But if you are getting 460rwhp and a bolt-on 5.0 is outrunning you... you should have got an auto because you can't drive.

Not to take the dark side or anything....but havent some minor bolt on 5.0's trapped 117-119? Thats right where the average trap of a cammed camaro will be. Some have trapped 120 plus but thats nearer to 500rwhp and a larger cam.

Just saying...if trap speed would determine this race it would be close. Not that its the only factor. My money would be on the camaro...but it may be close as he is saying. If he is at 460 rwhp and the 5.0 at 400-410 it will be a close race...especially considering drivers.

The guy states he's getting 460rwhp... He either has an extremely crappy setup or he can't drive... you choose.

Never heard of people going cam+tune.... Some more info on the cammed ss would be nice.... because H/C/I SS are hitting over 500rwhp... so he may need a new setup because his car ain't running strong.

His son's 5.0L is LOUD because he is running an off road mid pipe with SLP Loudmouth's. Don't forget that all 5.0L's come from the factory with a legit set of shorty headers so that coupled with a pair of the loudest mufflers and no cat's is gonna be freaking LOUD.

One other thing to consider why this I/E tuned GT is pulling his cammed SS is due to the 5.0L's all new Twin Independent Variable Cam Timing. It may not seem like that big of an advantage to the average guy but the ability to make peak horsepower at red line and hold it for longer will most always result in being quicker even though the other car makes more power but lower in the rev's and with a shorter range. This is why a 400whp EVO's always beat a 500whp Mustang's from a dig and on the freeway even if the weight's are similar.

No disrespect to any 5.0 folks....But I've yet to see one of these mythical creatures run an eye popping number at the strip. 13.4 one time, and the other time it ran 8.5 in the 1/8 mile.

Sure have... Mike from Powerhouse in his 100% stock 5.0, with 3.31s and 18" inch wheels... had like 27 miles on it:

He managed to pull off 12.7s...
