The more I have driven with the tap shifters, the less I notice this smell. Maybe it was just a little trany fluid mist coming out the overflow or something like that. Anyway, not a problem anymore.

I use the CFD tapshifter all the time and I never smell it. I do have the Elite catch can, so if your anomaly is casued by excessive amounts of oil going into the intake, that might explain why I never experience it.

I had the car out yesterday and did notice that in Manual Mode when using the Tap Shift the car did have the smell that MEKC57 described. I guess one of us has to bring it up to the dealer for an answer.

Any time you run and engine at consistently higher RPM like in Manual mode there is More Oil Vapor produced, and It seems the L99 PCV system has a hard time dealing with the additional vapor, Hence the TSB on replacing the valve cover and PCV line.

Al though this may help the issue, An Oil separator or Catch can will Prevent you from ingesting unwanted Oil vapor in to your intake Air Charge, and Smelling Burning Oil.

Ted.

Ted,

If I already have a catch can, is there any reason to replace the valve cover and PCV line per the TSB?

I have no doubt that more oil vaper gets into the intake but I don't think that was the smell I had. It has gone away with more use of the tap shifters. I also just did an oil change so I know it's topped up. The car is a year old but I rarely used the tap shifters untill I installed CFD's shifter. Now I use them all the time. I am going to install a catch can soon anyway. An ounce of prevetion and all.
