All I usually hear is positive things about USAA, but there are some negative things I hear too.
For example, during our areas recent hailstorm, one of our cheap cars was dinged heavily by hail. State Farm cut us a check (to US) for nearly what we had bought the car new. They called it, "almost totaling it out" ~ nearly $7,000. But I heard that those with USAA only got checks of $3000, and if you wanted anything more than that, they wouldn't pay it to you; they would only pay the repair facility.

Depending on the military medical (I'm not in the service, but thank you for what you're doing for our country), they may not pay for an auto accident. The importance of the medical for most people is like this: -If you get in an auto accident and need physical therapy, chiropractic, MRI, etc, health insurance does not cover 99% of the time if it's for an auto accident. -Also, if there is someone else who hits you, MOST states their insurance doesn't have to pay a dime until you are back to normal, not pursuing any further treatment and are ready to settle the claim... so you have no insurance for medical, theirs refuses to pay, your health insurance tells you to F off, and you're stuck with lots of medical bills. So if you carry 35k for your own medical and you exhaust that (pretty easy with an ambulance ride, surgery and a few doctor visits), what happens if the other person has state minimum limits? In WA, that's 25k. Again, pretty easy to exhaust. UM/UIM steps in and acts like the other person's company would have--that is to say, they pay any bills you had out of pocket, pay any wage loss you had, etc and also settle with you for general damages (what you've probably heard of as pain/suffering or pain/discomfort). Depending on the size of the claim, that can be a sizable amount. Anyway, hope this helps. Like I said, I don't adjust claims for your state but I see SOOO many people get screwed/lose property/lose their homes etc because they don't carry enough medical on their policy. I highly recommend it.

I hear it's hard on that side of the fence, also. Most of what I hear is about why someone isn't at fault after they run a stop-sign at 45 since I deal mostly with liability claims

Paying $96 a month here using Geico. Perfect driving record at 26 years old. I feel it should be a little less than that.

Mine is 485/yr or 40.42 per month. Have 2 other autos insured with them. 1000 deductible. Full coverage with 250,000/500,000 limits. Low mileage & Onstar rate.
Being old (65) has a few benefits. |

Not sure if it has been said cause I don't want to read all the fluff, but that rate is because the official parts replacement costs and things like that haven't officially been published for the car yet since it's so new. Once your company has accepted the published rates, your insurance will go up (sometimes without notice when this is the reason for the hike).
This happened when I bought my 2010 in SEP 2009.

before I added my teenage daughter to my policy I was paying about 46 a month for 500/500 with 300/500/100.
it's about double that now. the funny thing is, my 2012 camaro is about 10% cheaper to insure than my wife's 2007 altima. |
