Holy crap guys you need to take it easy on moving this topic. It was in the ZL1 section earlier today, then was in the camaro vs others section, then general section, now back to Zl1 section.

I think GM made a calculated decision... all the technology they have in the ZL1 was going to keep it north of 4K...

We all know Ford has been sitting on a ton of unused power with their forged engine...

I have no idea who's right, nor am I going to take a bet... but the cars are different enough that the Iphone generation may lean to the ZL1 while more traditional muscle car guys will like the bragging rights of the GT500

Just have to wait and see.

Ford had to make a tough call with the GT500. The 5.0 GT Mustangs were beginning to encroach on GT500 territory and in some regards surpassed it. Now with such a huge HP gain and the supposed supporting mods (LC, tranny, driveshaft, electronic suspension, etc.) the GT will have even more room to grow. This in turn will prompt Chevy to make a leap and so on and so on.

The only domestic competitor to the topline Chevy will be the Viper but we are talking price points well beyond ZL1's and GT500's. The SRT8 cars are dead in the water with little to no chance of survival, so again it looks like Camaro's and Mustangs will rule the streets with a few killer ZR1's and Vipers thrown in the mix. Its gonna be an amazing ride for the next few years as the HP wars wage on till they get killed by some regulation or economic disaster. Cant wait to watch!

Agreed post #588. Let's stop dodging this issue and face it head-on. The gt500, ford, and this so called war are not going away!

Bring it on cause in twenty years they will still be putting Chevy motors in F#%ds. Any way you look at it, it is good ol' American competition.

Keep the pony wars going!

I'm upset this thread is in the ZL1 section.

There. I said it.

It's like a big pothole in an otherwise newly-paved road.......

EDIT: I think it'll be a fair performance comparison between the two, all things considered. We can bandy about power numbers on paper all day long, but that's only part of the story...As I'm perceiving things, Ford appears to be throwing power at the car (because they can, very easily), rather than put a serious effort into it. Which I'm not faulting them for....the next generation is around the corner...why spend resources...

^(its no bed of roses lol) That's the way the dragstrip is paved. Don't expect a smooth unobstructed road when going up against the gt500.

The thing we (gm and fans) have to do is to re-group and fight back. This contest will not be won by the prettiest or the most polite automobile.....

the zl1's gotta put up its dukes!!!

It has...and the segment SHOULD be on notice...but Ford has nicely fluffed us all with their marketing, again, to take the wind out of our sails....GT500 better stop barking so loud and show some real bite...

I, for one, am not intimidated, upset, doubtful...whatever.

100 hp added to an already difficult car does not diminish the standard equipment and all-around prowess of the ZL1. Are we so quick to forget what this thing is packing??

And all for a price comparable to a similarly equipped (but woefully missing content) '12 GT500?

Despite this sound byte of "650 hp"...the ZL1 still has a LOT going for it that the GT500 does not. I caution the Camaro faithful not to lose sight of this.

Some of it you can get, but you have to pay extra.....

A Torsen limited-slip differential also comes with this Performance Package.

Customers can upgrade their Performance Package with an additional Track Package. The option comes with an external engine oil cooler, rear-differential cooler and transmission cooler for further durability."
