Beware of the manual in the V6.

It's broke with no fix in sight.

My immediate family has probably owned 30 or so cars/trucks/Suvs etc over the years and we've always had V8's in them. All the Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes, trucks etc were all V8.

Now that I am in my 30's I am wanting a new Camaro pretty bad. I went and drove a 2SS today and loved it. I did not have time to drive the 6.

Last year I bought a 2WD Crew Cab GMC Sierra and HAD to have the 6.2L in it so I found one and bought it. It loves to drink gas but it's got the power when I need it.

I am now realizing that I rarely have a need for a truck (my father owns 2 newer GMC so I can borrow when needed) and never really had a need for the 6.2L either.

I am actually tempted to grab a 2LT Synergy but I'm worried, I will always hear that voice in my head saying "You should have got the V8" and it drives me nuts.

What to do, what to do...
I've got a V6 and although I love it, if you have the means to swing a V8 you might as well. If anything, get one stock and modify it when the money comes. The V6 does have pretty good fuel economy but chances are if you're getting one of these cars its not for the fuel anyway. The power is still very much there on a V6 (I've thrown in a CAI, I'm guessing it's somewhere around 330-340 HP) but it's not the kind of "throwing yourself back into your seat" kind of power you'll find with a V8. Above all else, its a sports car and a Chevy and it was made to be purchased as a V8 I believe.

Here is some love for the V6 crowd, they never get enough and they deserve it.

You already test drove the SS. That was your first mistake. I got the v6 for a specific reason and knew that going in, so I stayed far away from the SS and refused to test drive it cuz it would have haunted me later.
The grass is allways greener, that's why they invented fences.
The v6 is nice and has plenty power but it can't compare to the v8, not like I would know cuz as far as I'm concerned the 6 is as fast as camaro's will go. Lol.
Ignorance is bliss.

Yeah, I have seen other people buy a step down or two from the big boy engine, whether its Dodge or Chevy, just because they didn't want to spend the little extra money and then a month or two down the road they wished they would have done it right the first time.

The SS--make no mistake--that car is meant to haul ass. Balls out. The sound and feel are completely unlike anything that's come before it. Stunning.
+1

We finally agree.

This!!!

And I'm a v6 owner. Not knocking the v6 but the above statement makes perfect sense if you have the funding to do so.

It all depends on why your buying the car. If you are buying it for a weekend car and can afford the extra money for the V8 and insurance then I wouldn't take a second look at a V6. On the other hand if you are buying it for a work car and like to have the looks and style of the camaro but need good fuel economy then the V6 is your car. I've always had performance cars and I've always been into racing and still race but when making my choice I had to show a little maturity and get what best fit my present application. If my distance to work everyday was 8 miles instead of 80 my choice would have been different. I'm sure that some of you are thinking that there can't be that much difference in the milage but just the milage is not all that has to be considered. I bought this car to wear out back and forth to work. With that thought in mind the difference in the milage, tires(you know if I had the V-8 I would play), insurance, and possibly a ticket or two over the life of the car is what made me choose the V6. Would I like to have the V8? Sure! Is it what I needed? Not right now. jes my .02

Mine is a daily driver. My 20-mile daily commute is plagued with stop and go highway traffic. Plus, (get out your pitchforks and torches) I drive her during the winter.

That made a V6 Auto my only option. Would have loved the V8 manual. Instead, I settled for leather, sunroof, 20in wheels and factory HIDs. I felt it was better to have a year-round cruiser than a 4-month monster.

I am going to fill everyone in... for about the 15th time as to why the V8 is so much "faster" and fun than the V6. Sure, the V6 has 312 hp which is great for a V6 BUT it's really low on torque... Typical Americans are stuck on horsepower... if you want that push you in the seat feeling, you need TORQUE! V6 is like 273 ft-lbs... V8 is 400 or 425 depending on L99 or LS3. That's the big difference.

Also, let's think about the economy. Look at the number of folks complaining about poor economy on the V6... you have to drive like a grandma to get high 20s. Otherwise, you're only a couple better than a V8. I average 20mpg on my SS and im not easy on it.

If your looking for power get the v8. If you want a car with decent mpg and a good sunny day cruiser get the v6. You wont be happy if you get the 6 and want power
