I've always had performance cars and I've always been into racing and still race but when making my choice I had to show a little maturity and get what best fit my present application. If my distance to work everyday was 8 miles instead of 80 my choice would have been different. I'm sure that some of you are thinking that there can't be that much difference in the milage but just the milage is not all that has to be considered. I bought this car to wear out back and forth to work. With that thought in mind the difference in the milage, tires(you know if I had the V-8 I would play), insurance, and possibly a ticket or two over the life of the car is what made me choose the V6. Would I like to have the V8? Sure! Is it what I needed? Not right now. jes my .02
i agree

The only time I can really let my V6 rip is when I'm on the freeway and no one else is around, and even then, it's for a very short period of time. If you want the V8, you might as well go for it, but from a practical standpoint, it's overkill for a daily driver. Unless everyone really is using their V8 to it's full potential everyday on the streets, then it's more about bragging rights than anything else. Now if you want a track car, then sure, the V8 is the natural choice.
I always LOL at people that say this. Just like when people say "the speed limit is 60 mph, so why do I need a V8."
My wife's old Hyundai Accent she drove in college is plenty for daily driving needs, but that doesn't mean that is as much car as anyone should have.
I love my V8 and race it as much as possible. There are also people who aren't interested in racing but still love the TORQUE, rumble and sound of driving a V8 around town. You can't fault them for that if that isn't what you are interested in.

The 6 has over 300hp. Does 0-60 in around 6 seconds. How much do you need for the street? Is sound that important to justify thousands extra in purchase price, insurance costs and higher gas bills? IMO...no.

Love 30 MPG of the V6 and V8 power the Twin Turbo gives when needed.

Back when I worked with Chrysler, (my dad was a Chrysler engineer), we always leased the 440 ci cars. When it came to buying cars, however...ALL the engineers picked the 383 cars. Unanimous opinion was that the 440 and Hemi's were fun, but not worth the cost to have as a daily driver. The 383 had about the same power as the V6 today, was more economical and less trouble..at least compared to the Hemi, and plenty of performance. Slower than the V6 today...a lot slower. It's your money. Do what you want.

I cant add much to everyone else and you can see that I traded up after almost 2 years. If mpg is a big factor, dont let it be. The v6 will do better on the highway at 65 if thats all you do, but now Chevy has changed the mpg figures and the v6, other then the new mpg 2ls is only rated at 1 mpg more around town, 4 on the highway. My difference right now to my old car is around 2. Other then that it has to be strictly a financial decision, more gas, a bit more insurance($72 a year more for me only) more mods and more initial cost.

The rest is a no brainer

The SS--make no mistake--that car is meant to haul ass. Balls out. The sound and feel are completely unlike anything that's come before it. Stunning.
This!

I agree. Some drivers have clocked mid 5 second 0-60 times with the V6. That's a big diff. from a 4-banger. The car has no trouble merging, as long as you don't pull out in front of someone from a dead stop when they are already doing 60. Go WOT down the on ramp, and you'll easily hit 80 before the actual merge.

Like I said, I didn't even consider the V8 at the time because I thought 426 HP sounded totally unnecessary. Once you get used to the power of any car, you'll want more (if you're a power junkie, like most of us on the forum). I don't fault anyone for wanting the 8. In fact, the next that'll probably be the way I go when I get another car. If you live in a high traffic area though, you might be disappointed when you have all that power on tap and can't even use it. You can only go as fast as the guy in front of you Just test drive both and see what floats yer boat

Most logical statement I've seen yet.

To the OP, any doubt's, get the v8.

My own story goes like this. I got my 2010 v6 in may of 09 without a thought of getting the v8. I liked this motor that was in the Caddy.

After a summer of being annoyed at "shoulda got a v8" threads, I told the wife maybe I should have.

She says, you love that car, why? I tell her about the v6 vs v8 stuff she said,

So you feel the need to buy a vehicle to boost your image to strangers whose opinions really don't matter?

Bless her, still have the car and having plenty of fun.

V6 for the mileage and good power.
V8 for the raw power.

Someone already brought up the "insecurity" issue.
I went V8, because I could, and my wife wouldn't let me get the V6 after hearing me compare the two. She said get the damn big engine and shut up!
Has anyone ever had someone look at their car and ask with big eyes if it is the V6? Doubt it. It's always, ALWAYS, Did you get the V8? Standard answer is "Yeah". Then "Cool!"
If the answer is "Nah, it's the V6....." Then, "Aww." THEN you get into the fuel economy, and it still has 300HP bit...
Half of the Camaros I have owned were V6's. Loved them all. They are not the same car without the power and rumble. Even when the IROCs were putting out a heart stopping 175HP, they were cool! V8 is an American Icon all by itself. It is the standard for "top of the heap".
I don't dog the V6s. They have their place and are great cars. Without a doubt, they are inferior to the V8s in most aspects.
If you can't afford the gas, the insurance, upkeep, payments, whatever, get the SIX!
If you don't care what others think, and love the style, get the SIX!
If you just want to own the baddest looking car around, get the SIX!
Now, if you want the sound, power, and ATTITUDE!, go for the SS.
It is a preference to whoever is making the payments. Period.

Will anyone care in 100 years?

I think this ^ is the best answer. Consider EVERYTHING, then make your purchase.
