OP the answer to your question - about 25hp at the wheels with about 1,000 bucks worth of boltons. If you are familiar with older sports cars or hang with the fast and the furious then get the v8. You will miss the sound or need the power.
Otherwise, get the v6 knowing 95 percent of the cars you drive by at freeway speeds are slower than you in most every measurable way.

I'm going to add to my original post way back when that most people come to this forum and naturally make the progression to a V8, if they originally choose the V6. You might be tempted to do the same if you hang around here long enough. But anyway, I would just go with the SS if you have the money. I love everything about my car, especially the looks, and I do love the power. But I guess we all naturally crave more of it when we know it exists.

precisely why I have never driven the SS, can't afford it at this time and when I drove the V6 I loved it, very happy with it. But I would like to order a V8 from factory with my preferred specs just once in my life and that will probably happen with my next camaro. Just happy to have my 1LT, love it!

Drive the SS and drive the V6 money did not play into my decision I opted for the 2LT/RS it's my daily driver I have a 2001 Z28 that sits in my garage she is my trailer queen I did not want to get an SS as a daily driver.
2 years and 55k later I am 100% happy with my decision. Sean

![]() Stock SS dynoes at 360 rwhp... So you're telling me a V6 with 1,000 by ks worth of bolt ons pushed 335 rwhp? I need some of what you are smoking. Even the L99 is about 320 rwhp so you're going to need 295 rwhp for $1,000. You're crazy. |

My fellow Ohio friend (I grew up ironton) I'll give you a pass for being hasty... Proof is Easily done posting a link, heck even my time slips will calculate out to more than 295 hp at the wheel.
Edit: It's actually fairly easy to match the l99 assuming its running 87 octane.... http://camaro5.com/forums/showpost.p...14&postcount=1

Oh, I'm not doubting you can get those numbers... just not for $1,000... unless you're going to post a NO2 kit. Useless power... fine at the track but let's not sugar coat things, I want the power all the time.

Nope sorry bub - thats all normal aspiration and on street tires. I have a solo exhaust, and injen intake together less than $900. But this thread isn't about me..... I stick to my statement as verifiable and as a good answer to the OP original question.

We were out today driving to Palas Verdes, nice oceanside bluffs here in Socal, 85 degrees out
. One other thing about the v8 vs the v6, if all else does not matter($$,hp) As with all v8's it is just easier to drive on a nice day. Becuase of the power and most importantly the torque in this heavy car the 6 just does not have, I can cruise in 4th or 5th at 35-45 at 1100 rpm and not have to down shift when I want to easily accelerate. My v6, as all v6's always wanted to downshift and rev to its best rpm band all the time to climb a hill or just lightly move out. That was just annoying after awhile. With tap shift on you can really tell the total lack of grunt the car had down low and had to downshift as well.

You would've been fine with the V6 ... if you hadn't test driven the V8. But at the end of the day, the V6 guys will tell you to get a V6 and the SS guys will tell you to get the SS. I think the fact that you can get a very lightly used SS that's under warranty for the same price as a new V6 makes this an easier decision, provided you're willing to be flexible on your color and options. Get whatever makes YOU happy. Just don't spend the next 4-5 years driving a car while the voice in your head keeps saying "gosh, I wish I had gotten the ..."
