There is absolutely no reason to vandalize another persons car just cause they park a certain way! Some people just love and respect their cars. Some people don't care about their cars because its a POS! So they see your car, become jealous, and want to take it out on your car because they can't afford one! If parking my car a certain way is a reason for someone to vandalize it, then me catching them is an even better reason to go totally APE SHIT on them!!!

I do this to keep people that dont pay attention from opening up their car doors and placing a nasty ding in mine. I dont do it to be a jerk. I do it to keep something pricey from happening to my car that I work very hard to take care of.

I dont design the tight parking spaces or lack there of. I do take the risk of parking where I do sometimes, but if I ever catch someone keying my car they will get what they deserve right there on the spot. For those of you who do think people are jerks for taking up two spots way in the back of the parking lot, worry about yourselves and move on because it isnt harming you.

If you worked really hard to take care of something and someone just threw their door open on your car causing damage, you will then understand. Those of you driving 1932 push and go's, I guess you wouldnt understand.

Go to an event where the parking is in a field and there are no lines? go complain about someone taking two parking spaces then.....it is just stupid. I do park centered in a space but I just think it is funny how people get bent out of shape when two precious spaces are taken up.
I agree. Look at a line of parked cars. If one of the cars that parked first parked on the line, then all of the next drivers will park on the line with the same distance between cars as if the first one parked correctly. It is pure arrogance to take two spots. This is what the yuppie D-bags did with their "Bimmers" in the 1980's.

Same view....I dont take 2 because its not needed...I do look for "Good Spots" though and if they are out a ways then so be it...I dont try to stand out in total obviousness...I do find myself looking for cameras and parking with in thier view so if the unfortunate does happen ...then I at least stand some chance of finding out what happened.

I never keyed or damaged anyones car, even an enemies. But I Have parked so close to one of those 2-spot Aholes that they have to get in on the passengers side.

Taking up two spaces anywhere is arrogant and IMO would attract more attention than a normally parked vehicle anywhere.

Personally, and I'm guessing this is true for most people here, I understand that my car is nothing special. Sure I love it, but to the average person I simply drive a black car.

Now from my perspective, regardless whether I have a $10,000 Nissan Versa or a $250,000 Ferrari, I want to prevent damage to it as much as possible.

Additionally, my point is that when you are in the back of the lot, with no cars or just a few cars around, no one is going to care how many spots you take up. Sure there are going to be kids and malicious people that are envious or just plain crazy who go around damaging other people's cars, but wouldn't that be true regardless of how many spots you take up? I'm sure they go around looking for cars in the back parked by themselves parked in whatever number of spots, because these are the people who are really protective of their property.

Again, I don't think my car is special (and based on sales figures I may soon be driving one of the most common sports cars on the road) and I don't freak out when there is a scuff on the paint or scratches in the clear coat or even rock chips. But I do want to prevent door dings which are extremely noticeable, and I simply do not see how taking up more than 1 spot in the back of the lot will significantly increase or decrease the chances of someone messing with my car.

As a disclaimer, I do live in the suburbs where people are a lot less crazy in general and also where parking lots are larger and spots are more plentiful. This may have skewed my perspective on the topic, but from personal experience people could care less how I park as long as I'm not taking up more than 1 of the "prime" parking spots up front.

It seems like the common reasoning is that you do not need to take up 2 spots when your car is parked way out in the back of the lot because no one else is likely going to park there anyways. Then if that is the case who is going to be there to even notice how you parked and key your car?

More importantly, I have never heard of or experienced an instance where people were so infuriated about how other people parked that they felt the need to inflict damage on a car. Sure, if you park up front or in a frequently used area of the parking lot and you take up more than 1 spot then I can definitely imagine people getting upset. However, if you park in the back of a lot where there is usually only 1 or 2 other cars total, then I'm fairly confident that no one will care or even notice how many spots you take up.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that I believe WHERE you park your car is much more important than HOW you park your car.
So, did somone key your car?

I normally dont take up 2 spots but sometimes I do. I tend to do this more in parking lots that dont have a lot of traffic and if I'm only going to b a few mins. Lazy parking on my part. Rather then take the time to make sure I'm in 1 spot, I just back up in 2. I dont make it a habit tho but I ALWAYS part way in the back.
